OverviewSentinel (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9444) is by all means a beautiful map no matter how you look at it. There's detail on every single corner, rounded edge, ramp, you name it; it has been masterfully crafted. The aesthetics are top notch and one of the more unique things I've seen in a long time is the light from the Guardians that radiates a section of the map through barred gates. Sentinel is far from lacking in terms of aesthetics.
The map itself is rather small, but it has multiple levels and that can make your radar somewhat less-than-reliable. Make no mistake, you'll want radar, but it won't help you when your enemy is two floors above you. There is an outer section of the map where there are fewer levels and more open space to run around in. Here you will find a nicely placed Overshield which can be game changing. On the other side of the map you will find grav lifts that are ingeniously placed under the map, and function very well. Basically, the style of gameplay you will be aiming for will change drastically depending on which part of the map you're in. For the most part though, close quarter battles are what you're going to get, even in the open space section.
With the tactics noted, there are a variety of weapons to pick from: a sniper rifle, mauler, rockets, battle raffle, carbine, and the ever plentiful grenades. Grenades will either make or break your tactics so don't underestimate them, especially on the ramps that spiral. Due to the nature of the map being mostly close quarters, you'll want to keep a weapon on you at all times that is effective in such circumstances. I personally liked having the carbine though kills with either rockets or the mauler work. The rocket only has two shots though and a long respawn time.
There is one thing I want to mention though, and that is the spawn system. It doesn't always work very well with your opponent sometimes spawning a few floors above you with easy access to attack you. Sometimes they will spawn right around the corner, and other times across the map away from you. I only played a default Slayer variant so I can't say much about the other supported gametypes and their respawn setup. It happens somewhat frequently though in the long run, it doesn't really hurt your experience on the map.
So, to conclude, Sentinel is a beautiful, fun map to play on. It's great for those small player games, and you're almost guaranteed to have some fun. Tactics work, and some parts of the map are noticeably easier to hold while others will prove more difficult. The spawn system is iffy at times, but the overall experience is pretty darn good.
