Alright for school im supposed to argue a point. or whateverrr. But I asked around my school for like part 1 and most of the people said there favourite music was rap, which made me angry. But anways, my teacher told me to take a survery with friends, family or anything. She didnt care how I did it, just that I get it done. So yes I have come to the loving fuzzy warm community of Forgery for this (: so help me out, cast a vote. pick your favourite type of music to listen to!TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! :D

EDIT: I kind of forgot to put rap in there. So for now R&B will count for itself and rap. sorry for the inconveinence.

my parents went to so many concerts as kids, so i have grown up around that music. queen, ac/dc, aerosmith, led zeppelin, and kiss. its hard to name a band that my parents haven't seen live(that were performing back in the 70's and 80's that is)

I voted for Rock as well. But my question is who the hell voted for Screamo, and what the hell is it?

that would be me null (:
yet my love of classic rock, screamo is yet another love. I love them quite equally but screamo I listen to a bit more so I voted for it. So yeah ... dont judge me (:

Screamo is a genre of music which evolved from hardcore punk and emo in the early 1990s. The term "screamo" was initially applied to a more aggressive offshoot of emo that developed in San Diego in 1991, which used short, chaotically executed songs which grafted "spastic intensity to willfully experimental dissonance and dynamics," continued (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screamo)
Ex of bands: The Devil Wears Prada, Suicide Silence, Kill Hannah, Underoath etc..

Wait, you're supposed to argue a point on an opinionated subject? Or do you just have to crunch some numbers and gather some statistics?

You're confusing me. :(

lol, gay. i hate that stuff. so bad.

Anyway I chose "Other." I have no music preference, I just listen to whatever sounds good. But I really like classic rock (Queen, Led Zeppelin, Guns & Roses, Boston, Rush, etc), Ska (not too much though, I barely started getting into it and idk if I like it that much), pop (I'm not actually sure if I like this. it's just I really like Franz Ferdinand), and basically I'll listen to anything that's good. Lyrics are more important to me than most, and the beat just has to be catchy, regardless of tempo and all that jazz.

I don't like screamo and heavy metal because it's stupid. It doesn't have a good feel to it. I like music that makes me happy face. And I hate rap because I don't want to listen to some guy talking about how many woman he's screwed around with or how rich he is or how many times he's been shot at. Theres no real feelings. It's just noise.

AC/DC is a metal group....lol

so is Guns&Roses.

But my favorites are Breaking Benjamin and Seether. Only one is rock and the other is metal. But I like metal better.

Favorite is metal by far, followed by screamo.

Metal guitar never ceases to amaze me.
Same for screamo. Anyone who plays guitar HAS to appreciate the skill and talent of many screamo guitarists. They're incredible. The guitar outways the horrible vocals.
Oddly the only other genre of music I listen to is Ska. Superman, ftw.

But, the other genre's, I'm not a fan of.
Especially rap. Rap is garbage.

true that. except i'm sorry i can't overcome the screaming in screamo. just its not something i'm able to do. that requires looking past the thing thats right there and finding something else. IMPOSSIBLE!

i have a friend whose really into metal. I like to make fun of metal, but all in all its good.

ska is pretty good. i like some of the bands. the 80s ska was realy good.

I gave the same answer for similar reasons, I basically like a band some where in my 120gb of music that can be categorized however loosely in each one of those genres. Not to mention there are a large number of genres uncovered.

But I would have to disagree about your rap comment, while I think most main stream rap does fall into the stereotype you described. There is good rap out there that is more complex musically and the lyrics are actually original/meaningful.

No. Metal is a heavy version of Rock, but also has other characteristics. Death Metal is just Metal... With screaming.

ganye is correct in so many ways kenny, it makes me sadface. Electronica is off techno and grincore screamo. etc..

ummm.... everything is built off of Jazz in the timeline of events here. bands built off of Jazz, and then were inspiration for future bands who took it to another level.

For instance, Nickelback was influenced by Pearl Jam and Nirvana, and built off of the dynamics of these bands for their own sound.

Nirvana's influences were the Vaselines, mudhoney, sonic Youth, etc.

And they were all influenced by bands before them, etc.

Umm... not exactly. If you mean the US by 'events here' there were several other genre which were prevalent before jazz. Here is an interesting time line I found about music genres surfacing from the 1930s on. (of course it doesn't cover everything but it gives a basic layout)

you thought the entire world's music industry was built off jazz? even if you're just talking about the US that's not accurate.

yeah, all the rock music out there. Though I may be confusing jazz with the blues - they both bore me anyway lol.

Lol, i bet folklore music was first. Music must've evolved from rituals with rythmical lyrics, which then evolved to songs about belief and so on. Or some random guy just started hitting a hollow stump with a stick.

I voted metal, because that's my main music interest area. Have anyone heard Math/Tech Metal? Pure genious. It may sound like gibberish, bit somehow they make the strangest notes fit together, and the huge variation of rythms is awesome. The band i'm pointing my interest at is Meshuggah.

Their songs have drastic rythmic changes in the middle of the songs, which makes them very hard to clap or stomp to the rythm of. It's actally kinda funny to ask a friend "hey, try to clap to the rythm of this song" just to watch them look confused and clap randomly.

The guitarists and drummers has to be reallllyyy good to memorize such songs, as it's not a symmetrical sound at all. Also, they're really fast and awesome.

A great example of this music style is the song Obzen. Combustion might also work. Check it out on youtube (although i doubt anyone who doesn't like at least heavy metal will like it)

Otherwise i'm a big fan of Melodic Death Metal, such as the old albums of In Flames, most albums of Soilwork and Dark Tranquility and the newer stuff of Kalmah.

BUT. I also like a lot of songs in the Rock genre, as well as Jazz and Blues. Some good Rock bands are Rise Against and CkY (they might not be, i don't really know tbh). As Melodic Death Metal has a lot of Jazz components in their songs, the calmer parts of really rough and long songs, Melodic Death Metal is a good choice if you like melody, growls and jazz. Opeth is a great example of this style.
