November Forgery Challenge

Here, it is, on the first day of the month (that's a first).

Figured we'd get this one off to a good/quick start and get it rolling.

Now, this month's challenge is two fold, in two different ways.

Now I have you confused, don't I? Well, lets take a closer look at what I mean.

You know when you are in Forge, and you are editing an object...... There's options like Spawn at Start and Spawn Time; but there is this other little option that allows you to pick Asymmetric or Symmetric. Have you even ever used this option before? Well, now you get to!

This month's Challenge is to make a map that changes forms/shapes/play styles/etc... when you play a Symmetrical vs Asymmetrical game. Now, this has to be a noticeable change in form of the map, it can't just be that Fusion Coils spawn only in Asymmetrical games.

Since the map needs to support both Symmetric and Asymmetric gametypes, we are requiring that your map supports at least one of each, and please specify which gametypes those are if they are only select ones.

This challenge will have two winners (assuming there are enough entrants to deem that necessary). Each winner will receive two months of Supporter Status, which gets you access to your own Blog and gives you a fancy little button below your name and access to the exclusive Supporter Lounge Forum. Each winner will also receive the Competition Winner Badge, seen here:

November Forgery Challenge Part 2
Wait? Part 2?!?!

You read that correctly, this second part of the challenge is more for fun.

It is entitled Pilgrim Playtime. Yes, I came up with that just right now, and yes, it is lame.

This entire section is devoted to Mini-Games. Yes, you get to submit mini-games for this challenge. You're welcome Ganye & Morphine ;)

You may submit as many Mini-Games to the challenge as you wish, but scores will not be compounded, but rather an average and general sense of overall quality will be used to find a winner.

Bonus points go to those who are able to give their mini-games a Thanksgiving theme. Note: This has to be legitimate. Simply changing the name to "Gobblers" doesn't make it Thanksgiving Themed.

The point of this challenge isn't necessarily to win, it is to get more Mini-Games to play for a Custom Game Night that will be happening near the end of the month. Which, as you guessed, will be engulfed in Mini-Games.

Still, there will be one winner for this challenge. They will receive one month of Supporter Status and the handy Competition Winner Badge. See above for more details.

Both Challenges must be completed by the end of Thanksgiving Day (11/27).

You would make a Mini-Game Forgery Challenge when I got obsessed with Far Cry 2. Jerk.

Reserved for my only minigame.

Does this mean you can't enter a mini game for part one as well? Even if it falls within the guild lines?

Feel free to do so, I just would find it harder making a mini-game play two different ways, although I'm pretty sure you've already done something like that anyway. So have at it. Just know that no map can be entered into both challenges.

If you win more then one challenge, do you get multiple badges?

I'll think about making x2, x3, etc.... Badges, if that situation arises.

The Asymmetrical vs. symmetrical one sounds quite difficult

That is why it is called a Challenge!

Just one question, wouldn't highest score on a single map would work best with unlimited entries per person? When you make the score averaged, I think people would feel less inclined to sumbit multiple maps, in place of just their own perceived best. In the current system, it almost hurts your score to submit maps you don't think is your best.

Yeah, scratch the "average" part. It is basically the second part, the "general sense of overall quality". If we, the Review Team, think your maps are the best, and a general feeling from the community when we play them put your maps at the top, then you win.

So you are deciding based on the forger, not the map?

"Think you[r maps] are the best..."

You could have easily inferred that yourself.

I think I'll actually enter this one. And it won't be like last time where I did half of my map and then quit. I even have a sketch-up of what my map is suposed to look like, but not the map.

Ugh, well as of right now I have basically come to the conclusion that my map for part 1 of the challenge will not be completed. (assuming there will be no extensions this time?)

I was nearly finished with the map when I realized a technicality with the VIP proximity traits. I guess for some reason, when you adjust the distance of the VIP influence it only effects the x axis around him and not vertically(which in my opinion is just lazy game programming on bungie's behalf). Basically it is forcing me to remake a good portion of the map and seeing as the budget glitch is still messed up on my map, I might as well just spend the time remaking it.

Also, I was wondering how many people are actually planning on submitting for the first half of the challenge? (due date is thursday night)

We will be extending this until the end of the day Sunday (11/30), because Thanksgiving is a tough day to submit you challenge map. Hopefully this helps some of you.

I have 3 mini-games I am working on. I might be able to finish them on time.

Thanks for the extension, I'm at my parents for the holidays so I won't be able to get online til Sunday. I already have my part 2 finished but I will definitely try to have my entry for part 1 finished by Sunday. Even though I've had to start the map over twice already.

Also if anyone is interested in helping me test it on Sunday and/or would like to get some feedback/screen shots of their submission hit me up.
