So, for those of you who have gotten your copy of Far Cry 2, have you tried the Map Editor yet?

If so, what are your thoughts?

Personally, I think it is very complex when you first come into it, and all of the controls aren't always intuitive. I still wish there was a way to just move vertically, like in Forge.

After spending a couple of hours just messing around, I'm really starting to like it. The possibilities are endless as far as the terrain goes, but I really think they could have given some better base building materials, alongside the pre-built buildings; which would provide even more possibilities.

I don't have the game but I was wondering how the editor compares with halo in the sense of being able to create things other than cool slayer maps, mainly mini games. What game types do they offer?

I haven't played the MP yet, so I'm not 100% sure of what the gametypes entail.
But it appears that there are four gametypes

Deathmatch
Team Deathmatch

both of which are self-explanatory, and don't offer anything too amazing for mini-games.

Capture the Diamond

Just a version of Capture the Flag.

Uprising

A version of VIP, but I think each teams needs a VIP that tries to capture points around the map. At the end of the round, when all points are capped, you have to assassinate the other team's VIP. (Or something like that).

I'm not sure that this information bodes well for the Mini-Game world, at least the Honor-Rule-Free type of mini-games.

Is this thread about just the editor, or the whole game?
Because if it's the whole game, then:
I've been on edge about buying it.
Honestly, the gameplay of the first Far Cry (shooting mechanics, stuff like that) was horrible. The map editor was it's saving grace, and the only reason I kept. Though, I never really played my maps, because the gameplay was so.. eck.

How is the actual gameplay in this one? Is there any game you would compare it to?

..And if you get the chance to play online:
Are there actually people playing..? The first one only had like, 100 people at it's best.
Is there a ranking system? Or is it more just play online for fun.
And..
How does playing other people's maps online work? Is it just like joining a custom map on Halo or something?

Lot's of questions, I know, but I'm very short on money which has to last me until the end of the year, so I don't want to purchase Far Cry 2 just yet if it's only mediocre..

Its alittle too complicated in my opinion. i sat there for like an hour trying to figure out how to make a river.

I had the EXACT same problem. In the video, they use the terrain tools, "Raise-Lower".

Also, Woozy: CoD4 gameplay, Bad Company destruction, Oblivion-like single player, and AMZAING MAP CREATOR.

To make a river you need to lower the terrain, and then raise the water level so it fills the crevice you made.

The storyline is pretty good thus far, but there is a lot of trekking back and forth to do missions. Plus, it seems like everybody is out to get you. But it is always fun to blow shit up.

Woozy, I'll try to play some Online tonight, but from what I've read....

Matchmaking is ranked.

Obviously I can't tell you how many people are online, but I'll try to check it out tonight.

Playing other people's maps is just like Halo 3 where you make a custom game.

Like I said, don't hold me to all of this information, this is what I've read for the most part. I'll try to confirm this tonight.
