Many of us have Dropped into the campaign of ODST. I
myself have driven in circles in the inner city districts
for a while and thought about the deeper story of ODST and
how it relates to the larger Halo fiction.
I noticed somethings that could have been missed by the
larger community and would like to bring my thoughts to
the table. First off I read over in detail both Halopiedia
and its complied of wonderful articles and thought on
discussion which is usually spot on in the Halo fiction.
http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_3:_ODST, as well
Halobungie.org which offered wonderful amounts of detailed photos.
The first question I ask you is how much time transpires
from the beginning of the Sadie story to the end of the
dairies when she leaves the city? I pose this question
because the time is hard to rule in any certainty. This
is something that has troubled me in writing this article.
Often times the halo community writes that Sadie's story
is all before the ODST's Drop. I feel this is error.
This is debatable because Sadie travels across a bride 2
times, rides and an elephant and travels back to a train
platform. In that time frame Master-chief should have hit
land fall, and seen the Superintendent. In addition the
ODST's should have been able to see citizens. Well from
the portions of what I have collected this is all
possible. Just have to watch as the story weaves together.
Lets start from Masterchief start at Halo2. Masterchief
first notices a Massive Capital ship Blow right past his
orbital Maccannon. The ship later reappears on the cover
of Halo 2 and the ever long moments when Sargent Johnson
Sings out his famous REGRET speech.
22
" THEY will REGERT that too..."
As Masterchief lands his pelican is shot down before the
Pelican reaches its intended LZ. I assume it was close to
the police station. If not the police station it would be
the similar area the ODST's Landing spot. If you do not
know the ODST's intended LZ it was the Reservation that
Dutch lands into, this all collected because that is the
lift pad for the Capital ship. So as masterchief wakes up
from the flamed pelican he and his teammates are in an
ever daring rush to get to the City. Imagine this as a
race to New york Island during an alien invasion. Not
exactly the piece of cake when you hear the audio logs of
pushing and shoving. I estimate the time of Master chief
to landing on the outskirts of the city 1-2 hours after
first Contact on the surface started. I know what your
thinking, What gives how is this possible with sadie's
story lasting for at least 5 hours.(This is my presumed
timed out guess.)
Lets wait on answering that portion of the story and
highlight the story arch of Sadie story. She leaves out
on a train going towards the northern section of the city
away from the city center and towards the other side of
the river. While on this train you hear a frightful moment
that "Hell just came here". So roughly Sadies story starts
the moment of contact. Putting Sadies story arch at least
2 hours if not more. First she has to travel back to the
other side of the city. Which as far as I can tell was a
slow pace because of massive exocrine of citizens trying
to get off the island. As far as it seems once police
commissioner Kinsler arrives she is forced to walk on
foot. I'm almost certain at this point that once Sadie
pisses Kinsler for the second time that Kinsler Escalated
the situation with turning Superintendent off. This
would add up to a similar if not exactly similar time that
master chief arrives. Which for all those that love the
cannon arrive to a happy mediated of How Halo 2 didn't
have to worry about Vergils presence. With vergil off line
Master Chief is independent of ODST/Marine regroup orders
or rally points. From his situation he will drive as fast
as he can to get to the Rally point.
"Do any of you know how to use explosives"
So from further thoughts I drawn a few interesting notes.
The aspect of turning vergil off and destroying him is
different. I have to explain this to you in some short
explanations. When Sadie crawls into the Elephant the
public announcer shouts the "Covenant are retreating".
Well, well, for many of us we can toss this idea out as
simply him trying to make the situation look better. That
is true to see but looking from a deeper aspect of what is
going on in the larger station. The Covenant are preparing
to slipspace jump out of the city. Masterchief is killing
a Scarb and for the ODST's are set to drop. All the pieces
are setting up to go into place exactly at the same time.
So as masterchief leaves to f0llow regret we have Sadie and the ODST's story happening. For us this is a perfectly
normal explanation. It explains to us a bit of a time
frame everything is beating towards as well plays to a few
other stations.
So as the squad drops into hell the team drops in
different places. This is where the flash back portion of
the story really becomes interesting. Look closely for a
weaving of stories. If you remember from halo 2 while
masterchief is driving threw tunnels he is ambushed by
buggers. These are something useful to note when bringing
up the when you review the ONI building later. The drop
would if any certainty in my mind happen around the same
time that vergil is put back online by Sadie. This lightly
adds up because we see vergil pop up and scan the city and
scan over all the sky and notice the ODST's coming in from
orbit. He becoming aware of the larger situation and
possibly looks to use it to help sadie.
Recapping we have Masterchief arrive around the time that
Sadie forces Kinsler to turn off vergil. This is post
dumptruck moment. A sub program could easily keep the
truck going but Vergil is cut off from his main objective
of helping the city evacuate citizens. (Part 19)
"O CRAP"
Secondly we have ODST's preparing to drop We know they
will drop during the black out because both the time it
takes masterchief only 1 hour to get from his crash point
to the top edge of the city. The question is does the jump
happen while she is in the building? Wouldn't there be a
big ordeal or something? I'm at a loss. I poured over the
logs and campaigns. The only thing is that Sadie is either
running wildly over the city in less than 3 hours. The
idea I suggest 6 hours Sadie blinds in this event but sadie doesn't talk about it.
"OFFICE OF NAVAL INTELLIGENT ...now that is a
contradiction" Part 22
When the duty officer Hangs up with Dare is the connected
moment of when Dare puts up dealing with people over the
phone. If I'm reading the situation right she will order
the drop and reroute the objective to be with vergil as
the objective. Many short video's link the next few
seconds of ODST's drop with the Halo 2 campaign. As far as
I can tell this links up with that faith full moment as
well by reseeding it. Once Vergil is back online we have
this really shady version of Vergil. He isn't the same and
we already have an issue with Sadie's father arising at
the moment.
When Sadie notices vergil is different the first thing she
asks ,"is HER FATHER ALRIGHT!" She asks the engineer at this point and as far as the subtitles suggest.... the engineer hides away. I assume from the next parts that Kinsler has made his next big move. Instead of dealing with Sadie directly vergil has cut him off every time. So he added to this by turning vergil off and sending troops towards the ONI building. These select officers are Kinslers personal Guard. This assumed they take Sadie's father and lock him in underground. The next line of business would be those Troops getting out of the ONI underground.
"THE TUNNELS are FILLED WITH THOSE DAMN THINGS"
Kinslers troops are held up with destroying the ONI build
and killing vergil and Sadie's father for a few different
reasons. The first being bugs. These bugs are the ones
slowing the Unit down the most. This added the Kill team
also lost there technician for explosive or they never had
training to set off the explosives. Either way they were
setting up for Dutch and Mike to help them out. While
Dutch and Mike fall back to the ONI building citizens are
trying to leave the city. The citizens are using the
train station and any mass transports to get out. This is
why we don't have much over lap from Buck's story up till
he is on the police station. More connections on the
Police station later. Dutch and Mike Tag up with these
cops to babysit this building.
When vergil is taking down the Villainous Kinsler the Kill
team is setting explosives and setting up for a finial
blow to Vergil. I only assume this because either these
happen at the same time or Mike and dutch destory the ONI
building an hour ago causing her father to die then. I
feel that it is because kinsler is talking to his kill
team telling them to find this pink Octopus. The kill team
must have reentered the tunnels to look for the creature.
This adds up to a gray area but with the matching voice of
the Officer is the key to my certainty. The same officer
in the 28th log is the same voice Dutch and Mike link up
with coming from underground. This is also the same voice
that the Rookie will find at the end of the game.
The question over looked is WHERE THE HELL IS Dare during
the entire game. I can not prove anything or show light on
any of this. The only move I know is that it takes her 6
hours to get to Control room of the Underground. She has
if anything held up waiting for other marines to show up.
She may have been slowed down by evading combat the entire
time or find out other lose ends. With the amount of
buggers in the tunnels I'm wondering what else could have
made here take so long. Possibly avoiding the cops? No one
will ever know but I'm going say she took too long. She
would be the only one possibly able to save Sadie's father.
With the Argon system started she would be also pinned
from going anywhere so that added she may have only gotten
into the control room recently. The flip note is that
Buck's story in the police station must also happen about
the same time that Sadie story is about to end. This is
the last line of defense for the city. The police station
turns into a military evacuate to leave the city. Dutch and
Mike offer Buck and Romeo a way out. While you work your
way to the crashed pelican you notice FLASHING terminals
saying LEVEL 9 BLACK OUT. This confused me for a while. I
started banging my head on the wall. HOW is it possible
that there is a black out even if vergil is back running
again. IT goes back to my idea of offline and out of
commission theory.
While Buck runs past these screens vergil gives the
marines No actual advice. He is burning in the background.
The idea here is The superintendent is blending with the
engineer and with that the engineer is going to empower AI
to finish off kinsler. SO the AI is technically off line.
The AI is not apart of the system and not able to be
turned off. The best way to explain this is vergil is
becoming self aware. He will suggest the engineer to help
him stop kinsler and end this conflict. The issue is it is
to late for Sadies dad. He is dieing or has died.
With the ODST's about to book it and run. the rookie is
about to be on the brink of the shit list. Left for dead
in the city nearing darkness. If you were to wake up in a
city hell like this would you go back to sleep? I know I
would. The amazing thing is that the rookie slips out of
his pod and creeps into this city to find the world layout
like a map for him. This guessing I assume that the rookie
only takes a small portion of an hour to find all the
clues and start looking for the captain.
With all this I assume that BUCK Hind tails back looking
for Dare also while the rookie wakes up. The moment just
fits best if they all happen close to similar moments.
Once the rookie and Dare risk it all to make it to vergil
the rest doesn't need to be explained. They LIVE and it is
a happy ending.
The only side note is that most likely the area that Mike
and the rest of the team hide out at while buck is off
being the hero is near the multilayer map LONGSHORE.
I would also like to connect the point of 2 garbage trucks
in the city. I only assume they were used to help citizens
get out.
So to recap I feel that Sadie story weaves together all
the stories of ODST instead of before them. For the
first half it is masterchief and the second part connects
the ODST with there real objective.
