View Full Version : [LBP] Little Big Planet Faces Recall due to Religous References

Apparently in the game there is a music track with lines taken directly from the Muslim holy book the Qur'an. Subsequently the religious community has pressured them into delay the release date in order to remove the offensive material. More can be found here (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=262215) Personally I feel it's a little ridiculous on the part of the game published to fold to these demands but clearly the game company doesn't want to piss anyone off in order to turn a larger profit.

That's stupid. I hate it when the minority always beats the majority.
It's always like this for school events like Christmas Vacation. The correct term now is Winter Holidays. Religious conflict can be just plain stupid.

I completely agree that it is a stupid issue, especially since the the artist of the song, who is also a Grammy winner, has never been accused of any religious bashing and is actually a practicing Muslim. I really can't see where people could be offended by his write to sing about his own religion.
But, one good thing did come out of this. I hadn't Pre-Ordered LBP because it was coming out the same day as Fable 2 and Far Cry 2, but now that it is a week later, I went and Pre-Ordered it.

I agree, if some religions wanted to not fight in wars and stuff, don't fight about this stuff. I remember when they called it Christmas Vacation, then all of a sudden they called it winter vacation just to avoid lawsuits against non-christian members.

Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo need to team up and create one console that you can play games from XBox, Playstation, and Wii. We will call it the PlayBoxii! Or the XStationii . . . the Wii needs a better name, it's to hard to combine with other words!

I found this out on Kotaku. I find it to be EXTREMELY ridiculous.
I mean, honestly, even if it wasn't a game I was extremely anticipating, I'd still be pretty pissed off at this garbage.
It really makes me mad when people bitch about their religious beliefs. Just because it may offend some people doesn't mean it offends others - so why should everyone suffer for it?

You should try going around preaching the word of Hogar at school: It's fucking epic.

You know what, all we have to do is get a few million members of the Hogarian church and then we can bitch and moan all we want and get as many games delayed as we can.

This site is quickly moving farther and farther away from our roots and even our focus is no longer centered on why we began this site... (sad face)

That isn't true at all. We started this site for two reasons.
To share our creations with the community
To meet people, make friends and have fun
We still do both. Yes, it is true that #1 started out in Halo 3, but as you can probably tell, Halo 3 is really starting to slow down. This is a natural progression in the same direction. If we were going to stay on just Halo 3, we would be dead in the water in no time. And we aren't the only ones (http://www.farcryhub.com) with this exact same thought (although, we did do it first :p).

I was actually taking about this exact same thing with the owner of RCG last night. He equated this time to Halo 2 when gears of war came out. At this time, A lot of players lost interest in their website, even though they did a matchmatching play list in conjunction with bungie. But I personally feel that Halo 3 is still going to come back. During the last two map pack releases, heroic and legendary, there has been a resurgence in the map community. And with the mythic map pack coming out early next year with the addition of sandbox, things are looking up. The January release date (speculation) is placed at a time when people will be getting tired of their Q4 games and get back to Halo. Not to mention H3R at the end of next year.

Which is why we will continue to keep Halo 3 as a major cornerstone of Forgery. Halo 3 will always be a great game, and Forge will always be an amazing step forward in User Generated Content. The Mythic Map Pack will, no doubt, bring new forging possibilities and therefore a resurgenc, and we will be here to support that.

Our roots, as Null said, were in sharing creations. With sharing still being the main focus here, I can't really see where your coming from.
I would, however, agree with you if you said that we as a whole have changed, with the aspect becoming less Halo and more Sharing on any game where you share creations. Take LBP, for example. It's Tagline is Play, Create, Share.
Whether it's a good change or a bad change is up to you. :p
Besides, if you really feel strongly about Halo, you could always start up a group with Halo being the focus, like on the old forgery..
And yes, I typed this whole response just so I could say *moved to LBP discussion* without making a spammy post.
