I mentioned this in another thread sometime ago, and the only thing that was really stopping me was an HDMI cable. Well, I've had that HDMI cable for some time now.
I was thinking that our group could put together a(some) video(s) displaying common yet messed up Forge techniques. The quality would most likely be whatever the best of YouTube is which I know cannot always be too great.
For why I'm posting this, I'd like suggestions on how to make the video, or possibly assistants or contributors. Even though I know a great majority of the Forge techniques, I cannot call them from memory without reference (it took a good ten minutes to think of geo-merging). A list of desired Forge techniques you'd like to see would be nice, some ambient music choices would be good too, and of course, if you can provide video, then by all means you can provide that too.
Desired Techniques: (*All dibs subject to change)
- Geo-merging (Other techniques)
- Interlocking
- Making smooth floors
- Switches
- Infinite Budget Glitch
- Surpassing object limit
Assistants: (If any, no designated time)
-
Film Contributors: (There's only two that I know of)
- Ganye (Possibly, most likely)
Map Comparisons/ Tutorial: (*All dibs subject to change)
- Spawn Point Placement/ Spawn Areas
- Weapon Placement
- Asymmetrical vs. Symmetrical
- Gametype Setup
Current list of Dibs:
CostlyAxis's List:
- Geo-merging (Other techniques)

- Weapon Placement
- Gametype Setup

I've always said that this is something we need, but lacking a capture card, I never did anything about it. I'd be willing to help out, just tell me what you need me to do.

A list of the Forge techniques that you believe should be covered would be great. Also, do you know of any good ambient music, or music that doesn't dominate?

For starters:
Interlocking
Making smooth floors
Switches
Other Geo-Merging Techniques
Other possible ones, not necessarily Forge-specific but rather Design related:
Spawn Point Placement
Weapon Placement
Spawn Areas
Asymmetrical vs. Symmetrical
Gametype Setup
As far as music goes, none off the top of my head, but I can poke around.

I will assist you if needed, you definitely need tutorials on interlocking and geo-merging. Possibly spawn/weapon placement, timed map events, and floating objects, and the asymmetrical/symmetrical feature.
EDIT: Didn't see Null's post. What he said. Also, geo-merging into walls.

Okay, I've updated the lists and I'll look into some ways to make smooth floors? (I thought they were already smooth...)
Also, would you prefer the video in 16:9 (as shown in the example) or 4:3? I prefer 16:9, but meh.

I mean making smooth floors out of Forge objects. So, good ways to transition between a double box and a bridge without a gigantic bump between the two.

I've been looking through a bunch of tutorials on YouTube lately, and while most do have voice, it doesn't really help the video. Now I won't exclude the possibility of voice, but I'll need a good voice, and I don't have a mike :p. However, I was thinking Ganye could do some narration since he has a somewhat deep voice that's clear even over Xbox LIVE.

Yay, support for widescreen. :)

Okay. Ironically, I just recently heard of an easy way to do this, but I've yet to test it out for myself. More to add to my "to do list." :confused:

Irony, it will be the end of the world someday, and yet will still be ironic.
For the voice audio, I'm still thinking it over, but the options do look positive with what I can do with Vegas or if I take the time, audio mixing. However, for now, you're my best candidate.
On the capture card concern, are you able to record in 16:9, and may I see an example of some recorded video? This will help since I'll know if it'll be best to keep our video footage separate.

I'm still fairly new to the concept of video recording, but I am fairly certain I can record in 16:9. I'll have to look later. Also, I'll send you the video clip of the montage I never finished.

That's understandable (I'm still fairly new at this stuff too), and I'm guessing you'll be putting the film on YouTube? I don't have other means of getting the video besides some various database sites.

Infinite Money Glitch: Both with and without items?
If Morphine would be so kind as to tell us how to make the invisible boxes, we could use that, as well.

Both versions of the infinite money glitch would be good.
And you could show how to do them both before you've started a map and after you've already started.
Also, you could show how to get past the item limit.

To make sure I'm understanding you correctly:
Infinite Budget glitch method #1: Place one of each object raising the Maximum Run-Time to max with each object you place. Start new rounds as needed.
Infinite Budget glitch method #2: Having two people in the party, have one toggle Maximum Run-Time and have the other delete the object. Once deleted enter the Maximum Run-Time.
(I myself have never actually used this glitch, but I've read up on them before)
For passing the limit, it's just saving and quitting while being one object away from the limit, correct?
I know how to do it if you need any help.
I'll test the method I read about first, and if it doesn't work, I'll be glad to enlist your help.
Edit: It worked out quite well from my test, but I could still see your way if you still wish to offer help.

Really? :o I thought the original method required you to set it to the highest number. You wouldn't have an infinite budget with it being at one since placing an object puts it at one?
I removed all of my dibs so do feel free to choose some. I'll take what you don't take, or if you insist, I'll place dibs first.

Sorry, 2, not 1. If you set it to 2 (Or 1 over the Objects on Map), the Run-Time Maximum will always be one above the Objects on Map until you reach the max.
I'll take Interlocking, Asymmetrical and Symmetrical and Switches, plus the ones you don't want, I guess.

Okay, I've switched the two out. I plan to do my recordings this weekend at the very latest, and I plan to have my videos in the finishing stages around that time as well (excluding voice audio if I decide for it).
When do you think you'll have your portion recorded/finished? (As a tip for recording, I'm planning on turning off motion tracking so you get more screen view)

That's fine. Just make sure to enjoy recording them (I literally fell asleep recording. :confused:)
CostlyAxis's List:
- Geo-merging (Other techniques) Done: With Doors merge into ground | old method merge into ground | Need to record merging into wall
- Infinite Budget Glitch Original method partially done | Partner version still needing to be recorded
- Making smooth floors Done, I guess?
- Spawn Point Placement/ Spawn Areas Still in process of recording
- Surpassing object limit Still in process of recording
As I've shown above, I've gotten a good amount recorded, but I have a few questions to inquire:
1. The infinite budget glitch will literally end up being over twenty minutes long if I record the whole process. I've only recorded myself doing a partial amount. Is that fine, or do you want the entire glitch completed?
2. I showed a few examples on making smooth floors, are there any in particular you would want covered? (I've done an example with a bridge and a box, and a bridge and fence wall)
Thanks for the continued support for this, and all help provided. :)

For the love of Hogar, no! Just record yourself and then, when editing the video, uber fast-forward or skip to the end.

I'm just going to fast forward through me placing objects, and I only did the infinite budget glitch partially. I doubt anyone would want to watch (even a fast forwarding version) of me ending the game around seventy times...

Surpassing the object limit means the limit of items allowed on a map: Each map can only contain a certain amount of total items. That doesn't mean more than 8 Open Double Boxes, for example. If you look at Tinyus Cratus, for example, you can't place an items on it.

Okay.
Even more sadly, that's what I read when it didn't work. It seems to rely more on the infinite budget glitch which might explain why it wasn't working (I was just using a regular canvas), but still....

Don't worry. I wasn't that stupid. ;)

Possible commentary on respawn tutorial. If any one wishes to make an audio file and upload it, that would be great for a test, or a proof read to check my grammar.
I would like to welcome anyone watching this video to yet another forging tutorial. Do Enjoy. Pause for a minimum of four seconds
Basically, you'll want to place respawn points. In the example I'm showing, I'm placing down eight in total as there are eight teams.
Once you have the respawn points placed, you can change the team that respawns on them by pressing X while selecting the repsawn point.
Blue = Defenders even though this video didn't represent that since I'm in Forge.
Green= 3rd Team
Orange = 4th Team
Purple = 5th Team
Gold= 6th Team
Brown= 7th Team
Pink= 8th Team
Red = Attackers even though this video didn't represent that since I'm in Forge.
As you can, each color spawned at a different respawn point, and it's important to know which team respawns for which team.
Next up is the respawn area. Since this map isn't a canvas version, I'm going around deleting the already existing respawn areas.
Now, I will place my own respawn area and enclose all the respawn points I've placed. By doing this, all of these repsawn points will go to whatever team the area is set to. As a note, testing this in Forge does not always work, so do test it in a Custom Game alone if you wish.
However, I'm still going to place other respawn points just in-case the respawn area's effects do work.
Since the respawn area was set to "3rd Team" Green respawned readily on those points.
Orange, however did not as I was sent to the Neutral Respawn Point. When I switched to Purple, I was sent to the 5th Team respawn point.
However, when I changed to the Gold team, the respawn area did not work as I mentioned before. This is because I'm in Forge, and the spawns do not always work properly.
So that's about it for this portion of the tutorial. I hope you've gotten some use out of this video.
