As listed here (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/blog.php?b=13), we are adding some fancy map listings to the front page.
At first I had stated that these would be the newest submitted maps, but then decided to let you, Forgery, decide.
Should these map listings be:
Newest Maps
Featured Maps
Community Favorites
Something else......

When we start doing the featured maps, are we going to put them on the front page anyway(News section)?

Yes, they'll most likely be in the news section, similar to Forge Hub.

Would it be possible to do Newest Maps, Community Favorites, and Random Maps?
Or would that just be to much?
I think having a "Random Maps" section would be good because everyone would have a chance to be on the front page!

I had thought of that as well, but I think it would take over the front page.
If somebody can come up with a good way to accomplish this, I would be glad to implement it.

Well if you could implement the same thing as your example, but going down instead of across I think it would work. If you look now, it is just the name and there is 15 maps on the left column and the whole left column takes up only about 1/3 of the page (well at least on my screen). Now it you did the three sections you could have 4-5 maps each. That would be 12-15 maps total. With it only being in the left column it would not take over the front page.

I think it would be good to have Community Favorites and/or Featured maps. Either way.

Well, the point of moving them to the top was to make them more visible.
But, is what we could do is keep the new maps at the top and have other maps run down the left side. But, I'm not going to do too many maps down the edge, because again, it is meant to make things more accessible, and having to scroll an excessive amount isn't very accessible.

personally I think featured and random(or newest like fh) would be best, most of the maps don't even have 1 vote for a community ranking. Maybe if you added the stat of the top community reviewer on the site and then turn it into some sort of mini contest. That would probably give every map at least a few community rankings.

But would also make people give ratings just to give ratings. If people were good and trustworthy we could do this, but you know that there are those few people who will go through and give every map a review, even if they had never looked at it before.

But regardless aren't you putting yourself in that situation anyway? There are always going to be untrustworthy people, and by putting the 'top' ranked community maps on the front page will just bait certain people into down ranking other people's maps to get their own on the front page.

But we aren't putting top rated maps on the front page.
Once we get around to doing everything on a regular basis (soon!), both the Community Favorites and Featured Maps are both hand picked.
Featured Maps will be those that show a step up above and beyond other maps, either in creativity, gameplay or anything else.
Community Favorites are just popular maps that we want to keep people reminded of because people have really liked them. This will probably be determined by reactions in CGNs, when we get around to having those again.....

ohh... I though community favorites was the rating system, my mistake.
But to honest it does sound very similar to featured maps, I mean if the map is a community favorite I would like to think it would be featured...

Those aren't actually the top ranked community maps based off the ratings. Quad has 4 stars: all the others have 5. Besides, da w00z is the top rated map. It's just maps that the Review Team (I think?) chooses.

Well, there are always maps that the community loves for unknown reasons (da w00z (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=250)), but definitely don't deserve to be featured.

Yea, personality I'd just have to say featured and newest then. Although we have a small community, there is no way for the community favorites to actually represent the voice of everyone. At that point it basically just turns into higher ups favorite games.

I don't think featured should be there because they will already be in the news - on the same page.

Yeah, but normally the news only holds the top 4 stories, which includes things other than featured maps. Also, I feel people who get their maps featured deserve the space more than nostalgic maps which people unrelated to the forum might not connect with.

My vote goes to community favorites, because if the community loves a map, the entire community should know about it.
