You must not really read anything, especially official XBL messages from Microsoft.

XBL is down today to do some server upgrades to help prepare for the update that will occur some time in the future. The Dashboard update isn't coming for a while, they are just preparing.

I knew it was going to be down, but for what exactly I do not really care besides preparation work. I've got myself preoccupied with homework at the moment. In fact, I'm currently printing my lab report.
