Alright, this will be the second time that I allow multiple answers. Why? Well, I felt that you couldn't answer this question with a single option since it really depends on the situation you're in if you're going to use a guide. Of course, you can't really select the first option and then something else, or the last option and then something else. That would not make sense.

For myself, it's usually a difficult puzzle that will make me use the guide for a game. Like WindWaker for instance. There were a few times that I used an FAQ for help on what to do. Pokemon is another where I actually bought the guides as I was striving for 100% completeness (achieved and then the game vanished from my collection).

So, the question is yours to answer now.

I rarely use guides, and the only time I will is when the game design is horrible and the game doesn't guide you well enough on its own.

I would probably also use guides if I wanted to complete games to 100%, but I rarely ever do that.

I don't like using guides... The last time I used a guide was in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory on the lighthouse level. The reason? I couldn't find a supposedly obvious door that was hidden behind a light in a dark room. Otherwise, I haven't used a guide since.

Sometimes for puzzles. I usually get to a puzzle prematurely so I missed a switch or something and will have to go back.
