Forge Economics
Now I’m not about to lay out a lesson of economics in this little opening page. What I do seek to do is explain too many forgers why you and I play and download the maps you like. The interworking of forger is deep and carries a depth that you would be amazed in what is still left to improve. Care for example how Ghost merging has caused a small wave of revival in forge interest. I’m happy about it and I hope we can have many more like this.
So let us take the biggest bite off the top. The method of forge is so much we forge for what is in demand. The forge of maps is based exactly on the idea you will make them if you want them. That is quite clear when then seams of the forge Map databases are busting in the middle. So when the quantities of maps are up we want to demand better quality or value one would pay (time) for downloading that map. Essentially all money value put into is time. We can debate feature and all the little fun parts like video worthy or even Bungie Favorites but by and by the single factor is it getting downloaded or is it getting played.
I came from the deep love of gaming so much to the fact I will not admit that I will download a map and simply play it because it looks good. The contrast is quality of remembering that maps and since I downloaded it doesn’t mean everyone and their mother stepped up and got the map as well.
This is where B.net and Map sites come into play. WE join these sites either looking for sweet maps to play or the desire to make it with a big Downloaded content. Well Bungie.net made this possible with the waves and waves of untold maps from the community. The same goes with forum map sites. Like for instance XF(xforgery) or FH (Forgehub), these all so wonderful sites contribute both the means to allow for a free market as well an exchange of both the creators and downloader to interact freely. I’m using these two examples because these are the sites I often go to for enjoyment of customs/content found on those. So here is a great pit of all things why we have small bite size forging communities. To play and create content… the problem is halo can get kinda stale and crusty if the same reparation maps get featured, so in turn we need the factory to up the quality. We can tell with both the large group of people still playing MM that the content post both on these mini markets and well the markets at large are still alive only in recession because taste has changed.
So how can forge sites change to improve these times of recession? Simply put a change in both products as well the rate and quality that items are made to meet the demands the people want. I personally favor free markets that lime light the content most downloaded as well the material most commented on or even just over all most appealing. The same can be true when our forge sites’ feature maps. The overall incentive is to feature a map that will attract more users to the site and that in turn produce more content.
I’m coming clean in saying I’m hoping we can see a change in the way forge site’s make maps to improve the quality for all of the community. When people’s expectations rise from whether the new glitch comes in or a new style of game play many forgers come to the task of wanting to be the supplier of that demand. The small little errors you make is often what stops and kills a map…. For example I often over looked the quality of my pictures to present my map. I spent DAYS and nights forging the corners of my map to perfection but since I lacked the method to sell it the map tumbled in the forum. Thus you would take from my troubled efforts and learn from them.
What I want to purpose is organizing both the forge/testing section for sites for Forge productions as well with the map section an open post forge review. Take for further example how we comment on maps after they are posted on to the forum. NICE MAP 10/10… this comment told me nothing about why you Downloaded it… simply that you wanted to comment your thoughts of that map. By and by we would rather have comments towards why you didn’t down load it in direct concept than to say I’ll DL and tell you later…. I want to see more of … I down loaded this map because of that sweet pelican at the corner that no one see’s. Or many of the small portions of cover that allows for gameplay. These comments tell us the makers what you want…. It isn’t about color status or rank… we are all buyers of maps but the ones that will truly listen to you are the ones that will make the products you want. Listen read and look for those forgers…. The map featured on some sites may be this but I would like to tell you the more in depth looks you take on forge the better you will learn to improve things. I’ll be ever willing and continue to give a review of previously made maps as well new and coming maps.
