FPS Drop

Usually, when I play any PC Games, I go at a steady 60+ FPS. Now, recently when I tried to play L4D2, the FPS rate drop to ~10, and it's unbearable. Tried it on other games, same thing. Any suggestions on how I solve this problem?

Specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.87GHz
2 Gigs of RAM
300 Gigs of Hardrive Space Free
NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE

Close stuff you don't need to save RAM?
Task Manager > Processes is a good place to start.

There may be options in settings to maybe turn down resolution a bit or turn off audio. If you are willing to sacrifice those, it would help too.
