XForgery September Update (1 of 2)

Oh my goodness........

That's all I have to say right now.

We've been down for 3 days, and we would really like to apologize for that. Our one valid excuse is that our web host sucks at responding to our issues, which means that we didn't have any DB for quite sometime, which means that we couldn't help not being up and running because not even I could login. :(

Well, as you can see, we have a lot of changes, so I'm going to blow past the normal formalities I have in these updates and just go to the juicy parts.

What happened to H3F?
Well, the first thing you most likely realized is that our domain has had a substantial change. While Halo3Forgery still exists, we are going to be expanding our horizons to new opportunities.

So, from this point forward, our new base of operations is XForgery.com (http://www.xforgery.com).
We went with .com this time, because people complained about the .org last time.

You'll also notice a pretty, new homepage with a giant X on it. This X leads us to the next discussion.

New Addition to the Lineup
That's right, we added Far Cry 2 to our forums. This means that when the game comes out on October 21st, you don't need to go anywhere else to share your maps made with the new fangled map editor, you'll be able to share them right here.

Along with that, is the addition of the Far Cry 2 Forums, and the splitting of some old ones.

New Halo 3 Forum Structure
You'll notice that we took some people's advice to heart and rearranged the map forums. We took the best of both worlds, maps are first separated by their Map Pack Release, and then into sub-categories from there, when necessary.

Along with this comes an overhaul of the Map Submission Forms. You will only need to submit maps based on the Map Pack they belong to, from there you can choose to place them into a subcategory, if you so choose, and the form will place the map where it is best suited to go. There are numerous other changes as well to the forms, so I suggest you go in and take a peek.

One suggestion I added in is one requested from FH members. You can now pick your own submission format, without having to fill in the whole form, if you so chose. There's a little checkbox that will turn this option on/off.

Any Issues?
Because of these gigantic changes we've been making, there is a big chance that there might be issues. If there are any, open up a thread in the Tech Support Forum (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=5).

Sadly, there are some issues we can't handle ourselves. For instance, if you have links to your maps in your signature, they will need to be transferred from halo3forgery.org to xforgery.com. There isn't too much we can do about this.

Random Other Updates
We did a bunch of other random updates to stuff as well. Including AME, Imageshack embedder and the Image Resizer.

The most notable being the Image Resizer, where you can now click on any image and just click the Next/Prev buttons to scroll through all of the images in the post.

Random series of short updates......

Chat Forum
The Chat/Spam forum has been renamed to General Chat, to avoid having actual Spam in there and thus giving off the wrong idea.

Also, we have added a new modification that will lock any threads in General Chat if they have been inactive for 30 days.

Quick Reply
We added the Quick Reply option that you will now find at the bottom of each Thread. And for those who used it before, we removed the Must Click Before Use option.

Moderation
Woozy (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/member.php?u=3) got Moderator, enough said. Congratulate him!
He'll be cracking down on all of your wrong doings.

Halo 3 Forgery Gamertags
We have a couple of Gamertags set up that you can add to your friends list so you can get in contact with everyone on the site.

A Forgery A (http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?GamerTag=A%20Forgery%20A)
A Forgery B (http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?GamerTag=A%20Forgery%20B)

I was wondering why it was saying "XForgery" when I checked this site earlier today (while it was still down for me). Good update by the way.

Awesome update. Did we ever have a vote or something that I missed which decided we should change our name?

Nope, it was kind of an internal decision. There were only a handful of people who actually knew about it. There seemed to be a lot of people who were excited about Far Cry 2, and it seemed like a natural progression to include additional User Generated Content.

Well, I wasn't going to buy Farcry 2 the day it came out. Now I guess I have to because half the site is dedicated to it. So, it better be good AMAZING or else!!!

Just because we are picking up Far Cry 2 definitely doesn't mean we are dropping Halo 3. Halo 3 will be around for a long time, and we intend to stay right there with it.

When we were talking about Far Cry 2 earlier last week, I said something like "As far as which game to get ... see what else may pop up for the games that would sway you in one direction or the other" (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5147&postcount=31), and this is the exact "what else" I was talking about. ;)

Hah. I got the slip about the FC2 section of the forums a bit back, because you guys updated prematurely without keeping it off the front page. rofl

Nope, Shellshock was besides the people who were working on it internally.

You were the first person to sign up to the site, though, when we were having technical difficulties and therefore got deleted.

Personally, I think things like that should be decided by the members, but whatever.

We can't leave everything up to the majority, because the fact is that the majority never agrees. If we asked everyone and within the community half-1 said "No" and half+1 said "Yes", the half-1 would be pissed that they didn't get their way. This was the one way we could stop that. Yeah, people can not like the change, but they won't be angry, just upset.

Besides, it's not like we lost anything, but we rather are trying to gain another userbase.
Everything can go on as normal as far as Halo 3 goes. Nothing changed (hugely) there.

Are we the first community with a section dedicated to Far Cry 2? cause if we are it'll be great publicity.

We aren't the first to be dedicated to Far Cry 2, as several sites are dedicated to Far Cry, since the first installment, and are therefore ahead of the game. Although, I think we are probably the first to be dedicated to user content sharing across all systems.

Personally, I think things like that should be decided by the members, but whatever.:confused:If we give every decision to the members then this site wouldn't have ever been created. I asked in the original Forgery if anyone thought that I should make a site off of B.Net so we could have it be more dedicated and customized for our purpose... Nobody but maybe one person said "Do it!" so I just didn't listen to the rest and did it anyways.

Nothing will change in regards to Halo 3, everything still runs as it was and with this larger update it's brought more attention to the little things that we needed to fix. Halo 3 isn't dead, we don't know how well the gameplay will be on Far Cry 2, we're just anticipating it to be large enough for us to expand the boards to allow more users to come and enjoy what we have to offer.

I dunno...I just don't like the idea of expanding to other games - it's kinda like Linkin Park and how they're considered "sellouts" now because they made their music half rap n half rock. But I guess in the end it's up to you guys (Tom and Null).

The checkbox is right underneath the description when you're in the submission forms, it works by not posting the other parts of the message regardless if you've put anything there or not.
