As we've promised, we now have the new forums online. By the time that you're reading this, you can almost guarantee that the staff has gotten a chance to welcome the new boards.

There are a couple things that I'm very excited about and some things need an explanation.



Map submission: Instead of just creating a thread supplying whatever you think is necessary, you are placed into a form giving you everything that you need to submit your map.
Map Reviews: Alright, I know we have a review team and everything, but on the old forums they would have to either PM the review to the author and/or post on their thread which would get lost. Now, we have a field specifically designed for the review team to get it's message across.
Social Groups: Kind of like groups on the popular MySpace. You can send invites to your friends or leave your group open to like-minded people of the public. In here, you have your own shoutbox type of ordeal, where your users post either about a specific topic or just to chat.
Chat/Spam section: Unlike how it was on the older boards, now the chat/spam section (and forum games) doesn't increase your post count. It's designed for you to release your thoughts and ideas that don't fit anywhere else on the board and not an easy way to raise your post count. Sorry.
Xbox Live Leaderboards: A completely new feature that will tie this site into a more round gaming experience, xbox live leaderboards. From here, not only can you check to see how your fellow forgers are doing gamerscore-wise but you can send friend requests and messages over xbox live.
New theme: At the very bottom left corner if the boards there is a selection for themes. You start off on default, but most, if not all, prefer Blak-Ice. We're going to get more themes as time progresses, but for now we're using two that work.
Customizable personal profiles: Yes, that's right you have more then just a signature and an avatar to go by. To change your personal profile go to the User CP (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/usercp.php). There, you can also update your avatar, signature, and personal picture.

I'm sorry to say this, but I think people should really start porting over their old map posts so that we have a bunch of maps to review with the new review system.

If you create a thread (for an actual map) in the map submission forum, then you can see the review panel in the right of the first post.

I think there are a few test posts there right now, so go take a look. Of course, once a map actually gets reviewed, the panel will change to reflect the ratings and provide some text about the map.

The button thing that Woozy was referring to was the online indicator, NOT anything related to rep. Green = online, grey = offline, black = you. (This isn't confirmed, but we had those before rep and I can take of rep to see if they remain.)

Now for reputation, you get little tag things that I haven't had a chance to change yet. Good reputation will get you looked at faster when we're looking for staff.

For example, you only have 3 friends, while I have 10+, therefore people like me more. ;)

We never doubted that in the least, since our numbers were false anyway. A fair number of people joined and never posted, so what point do they have in joining this site as well? We weren't really losing members as much as we are filtering out the junk that wasn't used. It is only numbers, we aren't losing activity.

At this time, there is no point in not advertising; but before we throw ourselves into it fully (where all of the staff will advertise in every possible place imaginable), I think it would be best to have a full front page. For example, we don't have anything in the "Top 5 User Maps" because the review team is just getting situated. Once that happens, we will be going all out. Until that time, feel free to spread the word to all of your friends. :D

BTW, I've been hard at work on the theme song. My bro and I have something beween 20 and 30 seconds of music written and we are working on the rest right at this moment. I'm typing while waiting for him to finish writing out his notes. When I finish it, I'll submit it to a staff member at Bungie and hope it makes the front page, and I'll ask them to advertise the site for me :D

How should I record and post it? I just found out that my music recorder won't connect to the computer.I'll probably get a cheap recoreder at RadioShack or Best Buy, but then I'll need to be able to post it to the site. Is there a way I can browse music files from my computer and post them in a thread or PM here?

UPDATE: we timed it, and have exactly 28 seconds of music.

Don't worry Null, we won't be finishing too quickly, we've been working hard for 6 hours total over the last 2 days on the piano and guitar parts of the song, only have 28 seconds of music, and heve yet to implement the drums (which should be easy). I expect it to be finished in about 15 days, and then I'll have to get a recording device to post it here and on Bungie, which would be about 5 more. Is 20 days long enough? If not, I'll hold it back longer when i finish it.

And why wouldn't we be able to handle the load? Forgehub's could, and I thought we had a better server than Forgehub? Will you be able to upgrade the server?

No, I can almost guarantee that ForgeHub is on a dedicated server, which means that they are the only ones on it. We are on some generic server with a bunch of other websites, so they use a bunch of the bandwidth as well.

Dedicated servers are ridiculously high priced, even a business class server host is 5+ times the amount that I'm paying for the server we're on now. Don't forget, I'm the one paying for the servers, not anyone else (at the moment).

Actual Dedicated servers are closer to 20x the price we're paying per month. So, until we start getting a lot of members that really enjoy donating, or we start adding advertising to the site, I don't think this will happen too easily.

There is a feature to find inactive members, but deleting accounts should be the last resort. To save bandwidth, we can do a lot of other things, but that shouldn't be a problem. We need you all to donate and later we'll bring a subscription service into the bunch.

The problem with the IRC is that everybody has to be online at the same time, rather than the slight delay that we enjoyed with the shoutbox.

And I haven't really noticed much of an increase in posting here as opposed to the old site.
