I'm Nemihara. If you've ever been to FH, then you probably know me. If not, I'm 15, Japanese, and enjoy long walks on the beach.
Anywho, this site got my attencion after some guy at FH forums said that this site is better than FH. Naturally, I wanna see if this is true. So go forth, amaze me!

Welcome, again, to Halo3Forgery.

As apparent from the now deleted post and user, you'll find that there are varying opinions on who is "better". :p

As I tend to tell people, there is no problem with coexisting, and we aren't necessarily trying to compete, just trying to bring new ideas to the table.

Don't get all accusative on me, jeez.

Uh, nope, don't know you. Also, it's still just as complicated. Only, this one is trying to get you to post exactly into a certain template, whereas on a site without such guidelines, I could just paste in the BBCode and let 'er rep. But I digress.

Don't get me wrong, I support competition. However, the reason why the majority of Hubbers don't like other sites is that we've had a lot of bad experiences with disgruntled members going, '**** you all, FH blows, imma gonna make my own forge site and copy and paste everything from your site to mine'.

Hey, welcome to Forgery.
Yeah, don't expect nearly as many posts/as much activity as Forgehub, yet. We're still pretty new, and as DF said, only have ~100 or so active members.
Enjoy though.

Like, instead of being a "forging community" we were looking at calling ourselves a "filesharing community" so we could introduce people who like to play campaign, matchmaking, or go into theater and get some really sweet pictures, films, etc.

You have to excuse us for not being as active as ForgeHub, we're currently working up our member base and it will take some time unless we get Bungie favorites or front page. ;)

Ah, so you're building a new program from the ground up and not ripping it off of PureCallum?

And it doesn't matter who had the idea first, but who developed on it first. You'll see this all the time anywhere, everywhere. That's the important part, not just the planning.

Yeah, so when did this site pop up, anyways?

Mhm. Well, I'd make a thread somewhere for a dedicated introduction thread, unless you've already done that. Much more tidy than separate posts.

Welcome to Halo 3 Forgery!

This group site is a little different due to its size and the background of its members. Unlike ForgeHub, this site has yet to reach the point that we need to discuss things above a casual level. Many of us go back to origins of this group, and thus will commonly write as though we know each other to some degree. This can cause confusion, be warned.

Posting maps is fairly simple, but it does require that you have your materials ready to be entered. Otherwise, you'll have a somewhat difficult time if you're planning to copy and paste from a previous made thread. The comparison could be pasting your text from Bungie.net to here. The layout is much different.

Now that I've blabbed on enough, enjoy your stay.

I can see how that would be a problem, as I've seen plenty of random sites start up. Although, they never seem to go anywhere.......

As I've said before, I don't think I even visited FH before we started work on the site :( Too bad, we could have stolen so many more ideas ;)

Null, do you plan on ever finishing our highly improved version of the Foundry Designer program?

I haven't done anything with it. I haven't had the time to start up a large project like that, especially when I can't get down a solid design to make sure that the program would be easily usable.

Also DF, quit being competitive.

About the Map Posting strategy, nothing stops people from going in and editing the BBCode of their post after it is posted to make it more customized. Although, as you said, that can be rather restraining. I may have to look into making the Map Posting Form an optional method, more for convenience then anything else. Thanks for the idea ;)

FH didn't create the Foundry Designer. A user at FH forums, who also happens to be a well-known user on B.Net or something, created it, and with his permission, it was embedded into the site.

FH=/=H3Forgery. They're different beasts. FH is more community driven, but it seems like this one is just a smaller group of friends. Good and bad, but it doesn't mean one's better than the other. There are benefits with being smaller, and there are drawbacks. The same can be said for being bigger.

Most agreed on all points. And as far as the "just a smaller group of friends" part, while it has been true up until recently, that is something we are attempting to change. Not necessarily the "friends" part, but the "smaller group".

Trust me, at this point in time we couldn't even fathom reaching FH's user base (20k+ I believe?). We are working on hitting a few smaller milestones first :D Not only that, but having a fair number of members also means we need quite a bit more organization, which I will be the first to admit, that we lack at this time.

One reason why FH has more trouble than this site is that because of our huge-ish community, we really have to deal a lot with how relationships between people are. It's something that's treaded on very lightly. Also, spamming is, more or less, not so much of an issue here, from what I've noticed.
However, there's a very prominent drawback to that, and that is that the group is so small that it's mostly just a few maps being tossed back and forth.

I'm not sure exactly how you're planning to do this site, but I'll assume that site growth is one of your intentions. Just don't be so hasty about it; the beginning steps of forums are always the easiest and the best.

They might have 21k+ members but before they had fully updated their new skin it said only around 5k active.

With the foundry designer not getting off it's feet here was an issue regarding complexity; we wanted it to be a basic, yet complex, forge on your computer, but without any sorts of 3D images to be created... I'd like it to happen, we had killer ideas, but it won't happen in the near future.

It's not been us as a community so much as a few people that've been recruiting. I know that the GFX Team has been working on coding and skins for the websites.

Also, I wasn't really comparing FH to H3F so much as judging them as a community.

I think this site is doing very nicely as a small community. It could be expanded, sure, but I think at first you might as well build up your team before heading into the big leagues, no offense meant.
What's funny is that sites like Halo Tracks and ProForge and etc. usually ban me before I can really be active. Their own undoing, I guess.

Thanks, and no offense taken (at least from my end). We always appreciate a new view of our on goings.

As far as other sites banning you, I'm sure it is just because they are threatened by your overly human stats (i.e. ForgeHub Posts = 3,190).

Well, on HT, some of the staff really, really dislike FH. Completely. So somehow, one of my friends from FH, a Loyal there, got a spot on their podcast due to one of their nicer Admins trying to get relationships up after some incident. Took a turn for the worse, and now they've rebooted their server so none of the FH related stuff is on there.

well the mods at this site won't do anything of the sort (banning) as long as you aren't spamming or flaming like a previously mentioned deleted user...or like mastrceef (inside joke for the members of the old site)!

We welcome massive amounts of activity. I was pleased (and a little surprised lol) when I came back from a 2 day period of very limited time on my computer and found that my 40 post lead (yeah, 40 whole posts more than everyone else on a site this new) had been completely demolished by other users :)
