You’ve heard of Overboard. You’ve head of Rocket Race. Imagine what would happen if the two had a baby. Well, this is that baby…
A History Worth Remembering
Over Race was started by me, Bartoge. AZN started an OverTracks, but it didn’t work without a specialized map, so the next day I tried putting the same thing into rocket race. I tested it and Pel was there and suggested to put in plasma pistols. We had the basics down. We both got together and started tweaking the gametype to be perfect. In fact we even tried to take away the plasma pistol and replace it with a sniper. Let’s just say that didn’t go to well. About 2 weeks later, the gametype was done and it is brought in that form.
Simply Put
Overboard is a game where players try to stick other players to gain bonus points, while Rocket Race is a game where players travel around maps to Go-To Points while at the same time shooting rockets at their enemies to throw them off track. So you can probably guess what OverRace is. That’s right, a game where you jump up and down to lose points and land on other players.

Hopefully you didn’t take that last sentence to seriously, as here I will describe what Over Race really is about. Over Race is a multi-teamed VIP destination game. That means there are several teams, that all have a VIP, and who try to escort them to the Go-To Points to gain points. However, this is similar Rocket race though, so you travel there on Mongeese. Instead of rockets though, you receive plasma pistols and regenerating grenades, like Overboard. Players will try to stick and stall their enemies to gain the lead. Arriving at the destination point, and killing the VIP gets you 1 point. First team to 15 points wins the game.
Wise Sayings
Now that you understand the basics, let’s go more in-depth for the gametype. We know that everyone starts with plasma pistols and regenerating grenades and drives around on a mongoose with VIP trying to gain points and stick/stall their enemies. But that is only when you are near your VIP. The VIP drives and the other player takes shotgun. When he is about 10M within his VIP here are some of his important traits:
·Has regenerating grenades
·Has infinite ammo
·Does 100% damage
·Passenger Only on vehicle use
·Speed is 100%
http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/kk370/Bartoge/Over%20Race/a30.jpg
But when he is not near his VIP, he is basically useless.
·Does not have regenerating grenades
·Does not have infinite ammo
·Does NO damage
·Vehicles use is off
·Speed is 200%
This makes it so, that players can not just camp other mongeese while the VIP drives around. He has good speed to make meeting his VIP easier. The VIP drives making the other player an asset instead of a requirement, but trust me, if played correctly it works better this way. Now earlier you heard me say that killing the VIP is worth 1 point, but you may be thinking that he is invisible, and he almost is. The VIP has 300% damage resistance and 50% shield recharge making it so 2 sticks on him, not the mongoose, will kill him. This has made player find several neat little trick combos, the most common being stunning the mongoose and then sticking the VIP. Plasma pistols shots are extremely slow, so while its satisfying to stun someone a mile away it also make killing the VIP harder, so we have given you a magnum. The magnum’s shot travels much faster and can allow you to kill the VIP easier if you stick him beforehand.

There are some more, less important traits in work too. One being indestructible vehicles, so if you find yourself at a loss for mongeese, search the map and there is probably one laying around somewhere. We didn’t run into that problem much except on one map, so it should be too hard to find your mongoose if you both die. The guy riding shotgun is invincible, making so that there will always be another VIP ready, if your current VIP dies. There are some spawn traits such as partial invisibility, and invincibility for about 5 seconds, so you can focus on finding your VIP instead of worrying about stickies. The last thing is that the go-to points are random. This adds replayability, since it will never be the same twice, but also so you can’t plan on going to different points if you find yourself not being able to be the first at one of the points.

Grenades are always an extreme help in this game, but each grenade type helps you in different ways. Frags and plasmas differ greatly in their use than spike grenades, but you may be wondering what each grenade does. So here they are
Frags: These are most used for launching mongeese into the air. They are harder to actually hit the mongoose with but their large range makes accuracy less important. They are sometimes good for kills when they send someone off the edge of a map.
Plasmas: These are best used for sticking vehicles. When stuck they can send you flying but unless their close by you, they wont send you anywhere except maybe flipped over. They can be used for kills and are great when you shoot a charged plasma shot at them and then stick them to finish it off.
Spikes: These are good for two things. One is if you land it right under the mongoose, they will flip over. Two if you stick them they will flip over and be damaged severely. These aren't as great as the others but still have their purpose.
The Final Countdown
OverRace is made for 8 people, the Rocket Race norm, but we found it works well with 6-10 as long as the map supports it. The gametype has had its problems but Pel and I have overcome them and we bring you this one of a kind gametype. I must warn you that if someone starts ingnoring their mongoose and starts walking around the map, we have made it so it does minimal damage to gameplay, but it works best if people don’t do that. So get out there, play right, and have some fun on OverRace.
