Well E3 has just passed and a lot of games were announced, now what i was thinking is that here at XF we could have X3 where we announce maps or confirm that they will be made, just a suggestion or maybe we could podcast it?

podcast it?
Oh geez, lol.
I personally think that's a pretty cool idea.
A screenshot or two and a small description for each map would be great.

thanks Woozy i think i mightve took it too far with Podcast but if it works then maybe we could try it.

I think this is a very Unique idea, and I like it. I think we definitely will need some more discussion on how exactly to pull it off.
Do we want to have virtual "Booths" where people can show off their maps/screenshots/videos/etc....
And how do we want to divide up space? Do we want to have a limited number of items/booths? Etc.
Lots of options/opportunities.

well i think i would let the staff decide that and the community cuz you know its XF

We could also do something with the XF groups - each group would set something up

Well, for this to work properly, it needs to be easy to access and even easier to scroll through a see.
Honestly, just a thread for a each gametype would be great.
Maybe there would be a section in Halo 3 Discussion (Coming Soon, or something), with stickied threads for each gametype.
Then you would make a post in your thread of choice, using a template you have to follow:
(Map Name)
(ETA)
(Screenshots)
Or something along the lines of that.
And then they would all be lined up vertically, like the posts in a forum, so that they're easy to scroll through.
(I'm not good at describing with words, as you can see :P)
Even cooler would be if there was some sort of button you could press that would tell you when the map is released via a PM.
I don't really know how that would work, but maybe pressing the button could add your name to a list of usernames and then when the map is released, the person who made it could send a PM to all the users at once saying it's out.

nice Woozy and so you dont release your creations you can PM everything your submitting for the upcoming X3 too a member of Staff. i think this should be bi-mothly and at the end of each A PICTURE OF CAKE

This does sound like a pretty cool idea. I'm wondering though if we could pull it off. It would be a sweet addition to the site. Maybe like once every 2 weeks or maybe just whenever in general. Nice thinking Bazza!

Seems like an interesting idea with groups. But for maps alone I think it is dumb. Nobody cares that much about peoples maps and I'm sure they could wait till the map is released and do fine without a whole teaser.

I was thinking more along the lines of having an actual booth layout on it's own page.
Like So (Probably smaller):
http://www.sonyinsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/e3expo09_westhall-728-75.jpg
People/groups/teams/whatever are assigned a booth. Then you can click that booth, which would dynamically pop-up a page dedicated to that set of people. Those people get to pick the contents of that popup, be it a video teaser of a map, screenshot(s)/video(s) they want to highlight, whatever.
So I was thinking about going all out. But again, I don't know how well this will work, or how much people will actually care about getting this information. It might be a complete waste of time to go this extreme.
But if we don't go this extreme, how is creating a thread/forum for it going to be anymore than people just advertising their creations?

Null that is absolutly amazing but everyone gets equal space instaed of few people dominatinf X3.

This is a very cool idea, if done right.
However, we would need active forging groups/forgers that produce quality maps that you actually look forward to download.
I'm not talking about 'that one guy/group' that made 'that awesome map,'
I'm talking about 'user/group X' who created 'Awesome Map X, Awesome map Y,' and is in the process of creating 'Awesome Map Z'
To my knowledge, we really don't have any active groups like that.
But if we don't go this extreme, how is creating a thread/forum for it going to be anymore than people just advertising their creations?Advertising and Hype are really all E3 is. I don't really know how much hype can be built around a map, so advertising is really all it would be in all cases. It would still be cool though.

I realize that theoretically that is all it is, but I don't see the point in doing it if it won't change anything. All we'd be doing is providing a place for people to spam advertisements for their maps if we put up a thread/forum.
This would give it structure and something unique beyond just posting an advertisement in some forum.

i ccouldnt think of anything too say Woozy but now that Null answered and theres a group Project something and it is making maps with the greek alphabet so they could announce maps like that and there could be a few single spots for people who dont like too forge with each other cuz if its only for groups then single forgers wont be able too post their upcoming maps

This is an amazing idea...
I would love to see previews of upcoming maps from map authors.

You could also have a section in the map (a booth) for the Admins, the Moderators, the Review Team, the GFX Team, and the Event Staff. Then each could have updates about what's going on in the site, stuff like the Sig Shoppe could move over there as well.
That should take up some spots that are guaranteed to be updated frequently. Then usergroups can fill in the rest.

well this thread has died out so ill revive it and try too get as many members too post here so we can make a final decision

We could just have a special forum where we could post our previews, and they would have their own beginning. For example the thread title would be: [Preview]FishBowl!
BUT if we want to do the booth thing, that'd be ok, but there should be something you got out of looking at other people's map previews. I can't see myself looking around there for fun very often.

simple but it owuld be effective wiggums i like that but yoyu have too admit it would be cool if we had our own booths too post map previews in

I think the large map preview place could be broken up into the normal categories like in the forums such as casual, competitive, mini game etc. Then give xfog's their own booth ;)
I love the idea of group sections. That would really help intertwine the groups within the community. Such as the LMS group. They have their own site now and something like this would help the group and xf stay intertwined. I also think groups should have to ask for a booth. Not every group would want one and a booth for them would just clutter the x3. You could also maybe have a vote for map features through x3 each map gets a podcast. Maybe a WoW recap podcast as well if you have the production time IDK.
thats all that pops into my head at the moment...
thoughts?

i definately agree that groups should have too ask for their own booth cuz whats the point in having one if they dont even use it.
Nice one Canadians

Ya I dont think groups like Letols Private Archives would want a podcasting section... but ya never know with letol ;) If this ever really gets in motion I would have a booth layout design contest. Winners layout becomes the ground floor.

I love this idea, we should definitely implement it. Maybe 2-4 times a year...
What if the profile page was to have a 'Upcoming Ideas' tab in it where you could post a few pictures and a description, that way visitors to your profile can look.

For those who would maybe like to take a crack at a floor plan...

I cleared up null's diagram a bit. I only have paint and did this while my internet was down. So here ya go guys hope someone can use it.

Excuse me if this has already been stated, but the easiest way to do this would be to make a new special forum just for "booths", and each person who wants a booth opens their own thread, with their name as the thread title, and something else, like for example..
[Booth]NewbAmoeba's previews of epic win!
See where I'm going? Although, the best way to do this is to make each member only be able to post one thread in the entire forum. Or you could use Canadian's layout, and each member could make a picture with a URL and their username in it, and then fit it into a square, so you could click on that booth/picture and it'd go to their thread. Just fit that layout of booths on the front page somewhere or something.

please read the full thread Null already stated that diagram and had an idea that you click on that booth and edit your booth then other people can click on theirs and edit it but you can also click on other peoples and see theirs

I don't see the point in just making a forum, because it is literally just making a forum filled with "LOOK AT ME!". If we are going to do this, we have to make it more than just a giant list of people wanting to show stuff off.
Hell, if we wanted too, we could even have Keynote speakers, for example, Sharpshooter could give a tutorial on how to make a racetrack or something of that sort.

Well, I mentioned a booth that connected to a forum (which is probably the easiest way to do it, I think) but if you have something better in mind, I'm not holding you back ;)

Null you could just make sticky threads for each event, and then when its finished just lock it nd un-stick it. and why not just keep the prefix for what forum X3 is going to be hosted on. But yeah CFC Bazza CFC this has to be one of your best ideas yet.
Also why don't The GFX team make a banner for each stand (Admins stand, Mods stand, Pencil Pushers ect). If not just the GFX team people who want to contribute.
Also why not have Trevor the Moonstar host the first one lol.[/Joke]
EDIT: last min idea, why not have different names for each Event if theres going to be like 4 a year (cannot remember who posted the original idea) like Foreging Xpo or XFXPO (Xforgery Expo)
Fenian Bhoy
09-04-2009, 07:48 AM
I think making a banners for staff and so on is stupid cuz the normal members area would be flooded and some maps may not get any attention at all.

Zack is confused... Can someone sum up all 4 pages in like.. 1 sentence? I don't want to have to read it all to understand. I read the original idea but in 4 pages something had to have been added on. If the original idea still stands, why not just make a sub-forum to the maps section called X3

We want to make a picture with clickable links in the shape of booths that take you to pages showing off each persons whatever.
