Annnnnd...

In this corner, launched early for an edge in the sales market, with the removable hard drive and green power lights- Microsoft's Xbox 360!!!

Here's the rules. Tell us what system is the better and why. You love your (insert system here) and want to set the record straight as to why it's better then the competitor. Share your thoughts!

Ok folks, the heat is piling up...mostly due to the processors and other computer thingys. But without further ado, let this long awaited debate as to who is better....BEGIN!

Okay, I'm going to be as unbiased as I can. I think that the 360 wins by far. PS3 is good for graphics, and movies...and that's about it. The 360 has way more games, way better games, way better online capabilities, just as good for graphics, etc. The list goes on and on.

way better online capabilities
This difference is quickly dwindling down, because a lot of PS3 developers have caught on to the whole "We need a party system thing"; and it's just helped by the fact that you don't need to fork out $50/year to play online.

Seeing as I didn't want to double-post, I waited to see someone reply, and here we already have a nice debate brewing. But here's my opinion and input.

My vote is for: XB360 Here's why:

360 is a great system. The games are a bigger variety, and the graphics are fantastic, even on my NON-HD TV. I love the achievment system, as many of you already know, as it's given me another reason to buy games and play games now. I like the fact of the detachable hard drive. I can take it over my friends house to show him my Halo 3 maps and other goodies I have. The LIVE Arcade is another perk, offering a great variety of games as well as classics from days past, I.D. Streets or Rage 2.

Now to the Online Debate:

PS3 Online perks: FREE service, Party System(still being established but coming), HOME interface used to interact with and meet new people online.
PS3 Online cons: Less then 55% of players have headsets. Mixed connections for slow and choppy gameplay(on select games, but newer games have fixed this), HOME issues and harrasment charges from female users almost got the project shut down.
Overall Opinion: The PS3 is a powerful system, by far the most powerful of the big 3. But with a system that clearly is supperior, why isn't there a headset bundled in each console? Is Sony that afraid to lose money? Do they depend n the 'Sony Faithful' to the point that they expect people to buy one? Sure the online service is FREE, which is fantastic, but what's the point of playing Team based games when you cant even talk to your Team? HOME i a great idea that makes shopping for content, and meeting new people a new experience. Sadly, it's still in BETA and was nearly cancelled due to people harrassing each other to the extent of it being invasive. Luckily this was taken care of and it continues to improve. This aside, I have no other ill thing to say about the PS3's online service.

XB360 Online perks: Party System, 95% of people have headsets, No mixed connections(that I encountered anyway), Avatar System adds customization to experience, New Dashboard update adds more functionallity to a once dead interface, being able to take your GamerTag with you on a Memory Unit to a friends place.
XB360 Online cons: $50 yearly fee(to some this is a bit much, myself I think it's worth it), lack of banning cheaters, expensive XBL Arcade titles(lately), some connection issues(I.E. not being able to connect with certain friends).
Overall Opinion: For the money you pay, you really get a lot. The $50 a day can litteraly be spread out to pennies a day. It's not that un-affordable. Plus, each console is bundled with a headset for online communications, making Team based games as well as others, worth playing. The interface is much more lively then that of PS3's. Offering an Avatar system to make your own online persona and a Party System to keep in touch with your gaming buddies.

Each system has thier pros and cons, but I have to lean towards XB360. The Xbox LIVE service has been in effect much longer and things have been worked on with more time and effort. The HOME service for PS3 is working, but isn't completed. It's still in BETA. When it finishes I can bet it will be a force to be reckoned with. But until then, XBL continues to thrive.

Ahh this is hard, I play the 360 way more but God of War is only on the PS3(which is the only reason I let Null by a PS3). I am going to have to say 360 is the best console, behind the Wii, but God of War is the best game ever!!!

A valid point. Another reason PS3 is going to get an edge is mainly due to the fact 360 owners will never have the honor of having Kratos tear things apart on their console. Which is why I will have to get a PS3 when they go down i price....but also to play Gran Turismo 5.

You used to be able to make the argument that the 360 didn't have any good RPGs, especially JRPGs; but that is changing more and more. And now Final Fantasy is coming to the 360. :'(

Is it really fair to have this debate on a site dedicated to a 360 game?

I think the one thing that PS3 does own 360 in is the fact that PS3's don't crap out after a good year or so. I've had a 360 since beginning of 06, and I'm on my 3rd one (second time it broke wasn't my fault).

I'm going to have to go with the Playstation 3.

Why?

As said, it is the most powerful of the three main consoles for one, it even officially supports Linux.

The game selection is not nearly as bad as most say, hell, I have more hours played on my PS3 than my 360, and unlike my PS3, most of my hours played on my 360 were for one single game; Halo 3. I don't personally buy a game to play online, I buy it for the single player portion so of course an online factor won't effect me as much as it would others.

The Playstation Network isn't so bad either, it works pretty well actually, but yeah, I don't have many friends to play with online, but neither did I with the 360 for about a year. The store also uses real money instead of points so there is little room for confusion on an item's price.

I prefer the interface of the PS3 far more than I do the 360 interface, even more so with the latest 360 update. It's just so "clean" looking and I can customize it if I wish.

The controllers are wire-less by default, use Bluetooth connection, and now have rumble. I personally prefer the ones without rumble since they're so light in weight. On the headset part, it's also bluetooth by default. Most are complaining that the console is already expensive, but do you want to be forced to pay more for an accessory you don't really want or necessarily need? (I have a headset)

The hard drive for the PS3 was larger at first in all models, but even still now, against the 360, you're still getting a lot of memory. However, only the expensive model of the 360 surpasses the PS3 in this aspect.

A Blu-ray built in disk reader might have been an expensive choice, but we can now get games that don't need to be compressed to cram it onto a CD. There's more freedom that developers can use with a 30GB difference in disk space. Also, you can watch blu-ray movies along with all of your standard DVDs.

The PS3 also supports full backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, unlike the 360. Well, the original models did until the market complained about costs and the chip was removed. Luckily for me, I have an original 60GB model so you see why I use this as a point.

Finally, the PS3 is ghastly quiet unlike the 360 at most times.

Watches post get quoted and torn apart, but I'm gone volunteering and no response will be given for at least five hours. :)

Like I've said before, I mainly bought my PS3 for God of War 3 and Final Fantasy (even though this is now a moot point).

God of War 3 isn't scheduled to come out until next year I think. So why do I have a PS3 now?

I wanted a model of the PS3 that supported all of my PS1 and PS2 games. I probably have just as many hours put into FF12 as any of my PS3 games.

I still can't believe that they removed backwards compatibility completely for PS2 games.

I have the 80GB version, which I bought towards the end of its reign because I knew that the new version wouldn't even have that.

I understand removing the extra chip for direct hardware support, but it seems that removing the emulation support (which is completely software based) wouldn't save any money, so why remove it?

You like that comment code, don't you?

PS3 doesn't have halo. That means it sucks. Just kidding.
360 owns cuz it only took Microsoft 2 systems to be epic, it took Sony 3. (again, just kidding)

I do think 360s have a better selection of games. Some ps3 only games look pretty sick, but "Live-withoutable". I don't remember any must have sequels, trilogies or continuations that are only for ps3.
This is a bit biased. We should ask the same question on a PS3 Forum.

360 Pros:
-Halo
-Party systems
-Competent internet play.
-Wide variety of games
-Removable Hard Drive
-Some backwards compatibility
-Netflix Integration
-Party system

360 cons:
-Noise
-RROD, etc.
-No Blu-Ray
-Live costs money

PS3 Pros:
-Backwards compatibility(Not anymore)
-Blu-Ray
-Some good games
-Massive storage space
-Whisper silent
-Free Internet play

PS3 Cons:
-Internet sucks
-Expensive

Analysis:
While the PS3 has fewer cons than the 360, it also has far fewer pros. For now, the 360 is in the lead, with spectacular exclusive titles from developers like Bungie and more on the way.

The Playstation, however, does have major potential. Just a few great games would put the PS3 in the lead for me - For one, if "Kingdom Hearts 3" or "Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep" were to be made and released, I would be forced to go out and buy a PS3 just for those games. And, until another great Halo or Gears game came out, that's probably what I would play. Then it would be actual competition between the 2 platforms.

Until then, 360 wins.

Well, I've listed some of the big numbers, but I'll compare the two with a final "average" gamer purchase of things. Using the cheapest of the options.
The Purchase:
Xbox 360:
-Arcade Edition It's the cheapest of the models
-Wireless Adapter Hey, I need to get online for all of its benefits and the ethernet outlet is downstairs
-Another Controller I want to play with friends in the same room or a backup
-Hard Drive 60GB Cheapest of the two and I need space to save my content I plan to download
-Xbox LIVE Gold 1 Month Need to play online to get that benefit of online gameplay or test it
-Microsoft Points 1600 I want to download some expansions and/or themes that aren't free
-1 Game I bought it to play games...
Totals:: $527.93 (Without tax and using the cheapest options) ($784.93 including all expensive items, not including a second hard drive, including 1 game and 1 spare controller; no tax)
Playstation 3:
-80 GB Model PS3 The cheapest model available
-Second Wireless Controller Hey, I want to play with a friend locally
-Bluetooth headset Damnit, I want to talk to others online
-HDMI cable Yet again, damnit, I bought the thing to play in HD!
-PSN Money Eh, $20 should be plenty to buy that content and some movies
-1 Game Console meant for gaming of course
Totals: $524.96 (Without tax and meeting the cheapest setup of Xbox 360) ($709.94 for all expensive items listed with 1 game and one spare controller; no tax)

___________________________________________________
From this analysis, we see that the Playstation 3 is in-fact, the more expensive console to purchase. Even more so if you want to get all of the accessories for it. However, the whole thing is bluetooth so those accessories are not limited to the console and you can always go to a third-party company. Of course, the same is with the Xbox 360 besides that the accessories work only with the console.

Another note to make is that there is only 1 reoccurring cost with the Playstation 3, and that's PSN money. The Xbox 360 has two (with a potential four) including, but not limited to: Xbox LIVE Gold, Microsoft Points, a new headset, a new console. (Though the console has a warranty, it won't last forever)

One last note, you get what you pay for. I've never had a single Sony product break on me while the experience with said devices was extremely enjoyable. I can't say the same for Microsoft products though I have more of them than Sony products, but not by much.

Now, for a little opinion:
The Playstation 3 has far more potential than the Xbox 360 in the long run. Also, the Wii is a fad; it will die the quickest.

Edit: Due to recent price drops and changes for the Playstation 3, the analysis shows the PS3 being the cheaper of the two.

The PS3 stops the 360 dead in its tracks. If you were to put 7 cores in an Xbox 360, It would blow up.

Anyone still using the "PS3 only has a few games, but those one it has are very good" has obviously been living under a rock. Off my top of my head, I really CAN'T name a 360 exclusive coming out this year. For the PS3, I can name about 10.

Well, the 80GB version has emulation support for most PS2 games. What model do you have?

Realizes I lied about not responding since I don't leave for at least an hour
To tell the difference between the old and new 80gig PS3 models, looks to see how many USB ports on the front of the system there are.

4 ports is the older and backwards compatible system
2 ports is the newer ones with only PS1 support

Sony stated it would be cheaper to make the system without backwards compatibility. I fail to see how an emulator chip is making a $400-$500 system any cheaper. In fact, this is one of the reasons I'm not buying one just yet, as I have PS2 games I want to keep forever, but if I'm getting a PS3 I want to trade my old system in.

It doesn't make it cheaper, Cony is just forcing the hand of people to get with the new. Microsoft made me do it too, and I wasn't all to thrilled, but I'm not going thru it again.

And as far as game exclusivites go, Sony is letting Microsoft buy them away. Tekken 6? Wasn't supposed to be on 360, but it is now. Final Fantasy XIII? Yep we get that too. What's Sony waiting for?

And the Sony Exclusive titles? Not impressed really. But here's my opinion on a few:

God of War 3- I take it back, this does look thrilling, but it will be short lived like its' predecessors.
MGS4- Great game, but you watch more then play. Good thing going for it is the Multi-Player.
Socom- Horrible game since changing developers. Used to be a staple in any PS2 library. Now my store has about 50 used copies.
Ridge Racer 7- No comment.
iNFAMOUS- Crackdown with Force powers and a Karma system. Looks and plays great, but no online and replayability? Pass.
Haze- A game that caused the downfall of its' developer? I don't think so.
Resistence 1+2- A great game with a Gears of War style plot, only twisted with a WWII and Future Weapons skin. Still fun to play despite its rediculous difficulty.
Gran Turismo 5/Prolouge- This is ultimately a great thing Sony has on their side. The best auto simulator experience possible is a MAJOR plus for me buying a PS3. I really can't wait for this game to be finished.
MAG- I don't know if anyone has looked into this game yet, but 256 player online? FPS with fantastic looking graphics and dedicated servers? Sold.
Ratchet and Clank- This series is still going strong despite the jump to a new system. This would be in my game library.

I know there's more, but off the top of my head these are what came up. A decent slection for sure, but not all to impressive eiher. About 5 of those would be in my possesion if I owned a PS3. I don't feel that's enough to dedicate dropping so much money on it just yet.

Yet. I never said I'd never get one. Sony needs to get with our times and bite the bullet. We know its the best system with promise overall, and Blu-Ray Blu-Ray Blu-Ray! Big deal! Blu-Rays that just get released are like $40! I'd rather buy a DVD for $20 and have the PS3 up-scale it for me. The only good thing about Blu-Ray, aside from it's fantastic quality is this:

1. Amazing data capabilities. A 4-disc 360 game would fit onto 1 Blu-Ray.
2. Blu-Rays don't get scratched from the lazer, making a used PS3 game technically like buying new
3. 8 layers of protection, so wear out is NOT a worry-ever.

So I have to tip my hat to Sony on getting them. Well played and impressive.

The PS3 is a great system, but for the value, 360 wins. More games, better online service, better variety. PS3 needs to get into gear, and seeing the up-coming line-up it may just do that. We just have to sit back and wait.

You forgot LittleBigPlanet. ;)

Also, on the whole Sony not wanting to buy our love thing, that goes for the DLC as well. Until recently, there were a few games on the PS3 that were never going to see DLC, despite several releases on 360 (GTA4, Fallout 3). Thanks Sony! ;)

I voted for Xbox 360. I just think that the only thing the PS3 has going for it in my eyes is lBP but my friends have said it isn't even that great. PS3 also has Blu Ray but honestly graphics in games and movies are not that important to me. I am fine with my normal DVD and for games as long as they're fun I could care less as long as the graphics aren't terribly shitty. I would be fine if 360 game had wii graphics as long as it was fun. Hell I could care less if I was watching VHS or playing the N64. Also PS3 does have better graphics. Slightly better and not much to make me care like I said. The games that are on both 360 and PS3 seem to have minor differences in graphics and since the game developers seem to make the PS3 graphics better I find that when you play online on a game like CoD4 the PS3 version lags a bit more because of the intense graphics. Sure the online is free for PS3 but I get well worth my $60/year threw things like XBLA, XBLMP, and also through 1 vs 100(Which only us Canadians have gotten but trust me it is great!) The 360 also has a lot more good games. The PS3 has a bunch of average games and only a few really good exclusives but the 360 has a huge variety of games with a ton of great titles. Halo 3, Gears of War/GoW2, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, and others. The 360 also I think has a much larger and friendlier community and I don't know very many PS3 games that have tons of websites dedicated to their pride and joy(Like how Forge/Halo has so many sites)

But don't get me wrong the PS3 is still a great system. The Xbox 360 is just better. I might get a PS3 slim if they ditch the Blu Ray, drop the price(a lot) and get more games that appeal to me that I can't get on 360. Uncharted 2 looks good, MAG, LBP, and a few others.

I actually saw a game for the PS3 that I thought looked good, but I forgot the name already. It's like you have an electrical super power or something. Other than that, I think the PS3 games aren't all that appealing, unless they're multi system games like for the 360.

InFamous is the name of the game.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, the PS3 has a larger line up of actual good games this year.

PS3 Exclusives (all years):

LBP
MGS4
KZ2
Resistance, 1, 2
God of War 3
Infamous
Gran Turismo 5
Uncharted 1, 2
Socom
Warhawk
MAG
Ratchet & Clank

Note that these are off the top of my head.

360 Exclusives (all years):

Halo 3 / ODST
Mass Effect
Gears of War 1, 2 (almost included)
Forza 2
Fable 2 (barely included)
Halo Wars
Huxley
Left 4 Dead (included but doesn't exactly count)
Perfect Dark Zero

All of these games I included I purposefully made sure they were good games for what they do.

I'll have to go with PS3. The 360 has more games but not necessarily better, the PS3 owns in terms of exclusives. Simple fact: If Halo and Mass Effect were on the PS3, I would've gotten that first. Most 360 exclusives are eventually ported to the PC anyways.

(second time it broke wasn't my fault).

LOL thats what they all say =].

Nah jk im sure it was'nt your fault.

But just as psycho said its not really fair to debate these two systems on a site dedicated to a game made only on xbox 360. They both have there pros and cons. By the way whether ps3 is better or not most of the games made for ps3 suck. Bioshock and god of war were like the only games I think dont totaly fail.

Then you haven't played enough PS3 games.
