View Full Version : [Solved] Review Queue List

I think there should be a "Review Queue List" ordered by when a map was submitted and how many maps are in place to be reviewed before it. Maps that have already been reviewed will be removed from the list so as to keep it clean.
This could be very helpful for users who wonder how long it will take for their map to be reviewed, and could also help the review team stay organized.

This wouldn't be that bad of an idea actually. It'd be a pain to setup at the moment since the current list doesn't take post date into account (when I was on the Review Team about two months ago). Still, I'm sure there's some algorithm that Null (or Thomas) could setup since the map posting portion takes detailed records.

Yes, this could be a good idea for the future, but, to tell you the truth, right now the Review Team is kind of on it's deathbed. So, we'll have to see if this ever makes it through.

Null, why not recruit people into the review team? I mean, actively do it, not with some dead thread in the H3 discussion (or whatever it is). Post about it in the Weekly Updates, etc. you could also give bigger inentives to review team members, like access to a blog or something.

If only it were that easy. We've offered plenty of incentives, and even discussed offering MS Points, but yet no response from existing members.
And no matter how nice it would be to get anybody into the Review Team, some people just aren't suited to write unbiased reviews.
And also, organization is an issue, because every Master Reviewer we've ever had has fallen through, in one way or another; and no offense to anybody else, but I'm not about to just hand out Master Reviewer, because there aren't many people that can handle the position.

I see...
so are we looking at the end of maps being reviewed, or is there something else in the works as a replacement?

Right now, there are no plans for either. It's sitting in limbo at the moment.

I like the idea of this, but what if there was like thread every couple weeks that showed which maps would be reviewed. Maybe give it 2 or 3 weeks and 10 maps that are chosen will be reviewed? How does that sound?

well, I was thinking more along the lines of another part of the forums, much like the user listings, that would show the order in which maps are being reviewed, from oldest to newest.

Yeah that could work too I guess. I am just trying to make it as easy on the Review Team as possible, while keeping the community as XF with something to look forward too.
When I get back home in a couple weeks (currently hanging in San Diego), I wouldn't mind taking a stab at reviewing maps.
All the review team needs is some active people who play customs on a regular basis. At first it looks very intimidating because there's quite a few maps out there that need reviewing, but like everything else a steady pace will ultimately get the job done.
The only problem I see is too many people out there have that "It must be done now" attitude which is why there isn't any new blood in the review team and the current members are "burned out" at the moment. For me I know that miracles can't happen overnight and realistically it may take a month or two to catch up to the latest submitted maps, but it's better than doing nothing at the moment (which is how I'm seeing it right now). I'm not the one man army or the "chosen one" that saves the review feature, but I don't want to see a potential feature be put in limbo, abused or just forgotten.
Hopefully after typing this I've put a little inspiration into those who were thinking about taking this beast head on because when I return I hope to have the opportunity to do just that.

I'll join the Review Team. Granted I wouldn't be able to do too much right now but I could get shatloads of maps reviewed in the summer. MS Points would be a nice bonus though ;) Also I completely forgot about this. I was planning on applying to the thread when I got my 360 back but it seems like I forgot. If I find the thread I might make an apllication when I get some time.
But as for the idea. If the Review Team doesn't get removed this idea would be great for them because then instead of just reviewing maps from their friends first they would revie them in order so it makes sense.

I personally never saw the point of the review team, or just never understood it - isn't its purpose accomplished by simply going out and playing a map, then posting a comment on that map's topic? Why do we need to be so official about it, when that just does the same thing via more effort since you have to go through the whole "review" system?

Because without the Review Team, you get biases. The Review Team is basically a guarantee that every map posted on the site will get at least one fair playthrough, and then be judged. Unless someone well known on the site posts a map, or a friend does, nobody downloads it and it creates a major bias toward longer member's maps.

So, Null, can you make a nice section for those wishing to join the review team in the next update?

I'll be thinking myself and probably putting out some questions to individuals and the community about what exactly should happen with the Review Team.
I'm not going to be taking applications for the Review Team if it isn't going to be up and running, and it most likely isn't going to be up and running if there's nobody to run it.

The Review Team is going strong, and if you want a list of maps that will be reviewed, here they are (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/mapsearch.php?map_sortorder=asc&map_creator=not%20reviewed).
Reviews will not be taken completely in that order, but they will usually be taken from the first 2 pages.
