Well, I've been wondering what your favorite anime shows were, and maybe why.
My Personal Favorites
1. Ghost in the Shell (Both series + movies) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell)- An anime I nearly forgot about, but have again, revisited. The plot is complex, and contains many twists. The characters are very well fleshed out, and you can begin to predict the way they solve issues, or even begin to predict issues that might occur within Section 9. Animation is above top notch, and visuals are outstanding. A personal favorite. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=910) Ghost in the Shell: 2nd GIG (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=8495)
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion_(TV_series))- First time watching this show I was blown away by the terrific plot and story. Second time watching, I was blown away even further when I went into to detail of the events that occur during this anime. The emotions and characters are all so finely tuned. This is one of the best animes you'll ever see. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=49).
3. Full Metal Alchemist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Metal_Alchemist)- The plot when watching the first time is amazing. Character details, and emotions are told very well. The story appeals to many and when you go into detail, the anime is one of the best. The great animation is another added bonus. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2960).
4. Eureka 7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eureka_7)- More of a story full of plot twists (with relationships thrown in), this anime shows the emotions of its characters rather than just tell. The plot is fluid and keeps interest greatly especially during the last 15 episodes. The beginning is very slow, but this anime kicks into high gear later on. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4797).
5. Code Geass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Geass) (Both series, up to unfinished part)- The plot isn't simple, but it isn't an outstanding one either. The characters are usually well fleshed out, and the plot does have many twists. The way the series goes, it's usually almost unpredictable in how the plot will unfold with so many possible inputs. The series is top notch in animation, and the same could be said for the visuals. I just wish there was a tad bit less advertising within the episodes. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6704). Season 2 (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=9173).
6. Cowboy Bebop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_Bebop)- The style, plot, and the character's personalities is what makes this anime great. The main story is very interesting, but lacks clear definition since the series is like a bunch of episodes linked together with a thin thread. With that said, this anime is a must. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=13).
7. Detective Conan (Cased Closed) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_Closed)- What can I say? I love a good mystery. This anime (especially the movies) include extremely detailed plots with many key factors placed into it that many will overlook. Even though I've only watched mostly the movies, this anime is great muse for those who love a great mystery. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=454).
8. Rurouni Kenshin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rurouni_Kenshin)- An anime revolving around samurai fighters. The plot isn't really the strong point in this show, but the characters are very well portrayed. Plus, it has its own tidbits of humor to add. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=73).
9. Trigun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigun)- Even though I've just started watching this anime, it's just too good not to already be a favorite of mine. The humor is great and so are the characters. The plot was a little odd, and did take some time to take shape. The series ended on a cliff hanger, but it did bring what was expected. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=88).
10. Death Note (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deathnote)- An anime involving crimes and mysteries. The main protagonist and antagonist are both classified as geniuses and have become opponents with each other behind the scenes. The main plot revolves around a faceless enemy, Kira, who has been killing off criminals with what appears to be a notebook. So, it's mystery type anime with a supernatural twist, with a very intriguing plot that will impress. More information (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6592)
11. Naruto (Both Series) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naruto)- While this show has its length, it lacks in originality. The plot is highly predictable and scenes are played out way too long. The characters also lack in emotion and are quite bland. However, it makes up for this in top notch animation, but I would like a more interesting plot... For my second part of this thread, how do you watch your anime? Do you stream, download, or hunt down the DVDs?
I tried finding the DVDs for some of the series and even planned to buy them, but I can never find them packaged so that I don't have to buy ten episodes per DVD set. That gets too expensive.
