View Full Version : [Solved] Embedding Images

We all know we can embed an image directly into the post, but what should the dimensions be? As of now, the site doesn't auto adjust the dimensions of large screenshots, and many of mine are those large screenshots ~ 1920 x 1080.

That also being said, photobucket only adjusts images to so many different sizes.
• 100 x 75 (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/CostlyAxis/Image%20Sizes/005PeachCastle-5.jpg)
• 160 x 120 (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/CostlyAxis/Image%20Sizes/005PeachCastle-4.jpg)
• 320 x 240 (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/CostlyAxis/Image%20Sizes/005PeachCastle-3.jpg)
• 640 x 480 (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/CostlyAxis/Image%20Sizes/005PeachCastle-2.jpg)
• 800 x 600 (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/CostlyAxis/Image%20Sizes/005PeachCastle-1.jpg)
• 1024 x 768 (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/CostlyAxis/Image%20Sizes/005PeachCastle.jpg)
• 1920 x 1080 (http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg94/CostlyAxis/Image%20Sizes/005PeachCastle-6.jpg)

Even though I can always choose the smaller dimensions, there is always the complaint they are too small. On this site, they can also be too big as well.

As of now, I'm using smaller images, but they are linked to the higher resolution version for better viewing if needed. However, this requires people to read side notes. I recently learned from the members at ForgeHub that that's impossible. Half of them complained about image size even though higher resolution versions were linked and one click away.

The other option is to attach the files at the bottom. However, this does limit the size of the image, and keeps it away from the main part of thread.

Edit: I just noticed that our Album Images can be linked to, and are 600 x 600. Example (http://halo3forgery.org/forum/picture.php?albumid=5&pictureid=15).

It's alright, but what is your reasoning behind your intended choice?

Well, the larger images would take up too much space, correct, while smaller ones are more difficult to see.

Attaching the images gives you a small image but still manages to give you the gist of the picture. If you want a better look you siply click on it and it takes you to the pic. This way people also know what they're clicking on (it simply enlarges the pic). not to mention that it doesn't actually take you to another site. it seems to me the best way to post larger images.

That's a good conclusion. I'd just need to make screenshots the last part of my post.

However, this site can also host your screenshots, but they're sized at 600 x 600 at most so that doesn't help with larger images.

The only thing that can become problematic later on is server space. I added the "Upload your images to ImageShack" feature so we can save as much precious bandwidth as possible.

Now, you all shouldn't really have to worry too much about this problem, but just letting it be known that the more images you hold on the server the more bandwidth you'll use.

On the other hand, I've looked some into getting a feature added onto the board that will change the size of the image into a pre-determined size. The problem with this is I don't know if it'll mess something else up with the boards and if everyone will like the size that I enforce.

Oops, didn't know that. Well, what size were you thinking of enforcing if ever? I don't like images taking up the whole screen, but I don't mind the image being shrunk to fit the page perfectly without stretching the post borders.
