After some serious thought, (mainly on whether or not I would be comfortable seeing the gamertags I routinely play against as people,) I have decided to send out an invitation to awesome. What am I talking about?

I am a member of a LARP known to many as the Darkon Wargaming Club (http://www.darkon.org/). We're not your traditional "lightning bolt-lightning bolt-lightning bolt" LARP; We specialize in clubbing the crap out of each other with big foam weapons. Darkon is a full-contact sport / medieval fantasy recreation game located in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area. Roleplay normally takes a back seat to full-on combat, so don't think you'd need to be a Shakespearean actor (drama nerd) to participate.

All you need for your first time out is a plain black or brown t-shirt, black or brown sweatpants, and black or brown boots (try to avoid logos). If you're in posession of some awesome Renaissance Faire style garb, that's way more awesome. Don't worry about bringing your own weapons, there will be many people who wouldn't mind sparing an extra sword or shield. (Myself included.)

The events schedule is available here (http://www.darkon.org/events.html) on the Darkon website, along with driving directions. Battles (Otherwise known as Field Days) are a great place to start, taking place on Sundays and usually involving two armies continuously throwing themselves at one another. However, the real action is at the Campouts. Campouts are all-weekend events where countries set up tent camps in the woods and participate in adventures. They also participate in tons of BBQ and Beer.

If any of this sounds awesome to you, give the Darkon Website (http://www.darkon.org/) a quick look-over and leave a reply. This is your formal invitation to meet me, Alzarahn, and beat the crap out of me with a big foam sword. Does it get any better than that? I submit that it does not.

That's unfortunate. It's a great event. While Darkon is a local event only, there are LARP groups similar to us that are national with multiple chapters. Dagorhir for example is a very prominent LARP, and is in many ways similar to Darkon. If you're really interested in getting into LARP, you can find a local Dagorhir chapter here (http://www.dagorhir.com/chapters/index.htm).

Very interesting... The nearest one to me is almost an hour away though. That's a lot of gas. And I'd feel silly without friends that I know there. Not to mention, what would my parents think... they don't even know I watch anime xd. :P
