NOMS! Week #5 "???" Edition Update - The Unofficial Top Five Maps
The Unofficial Top Five!
This week we had a special XForgery NOMS! event, based purely on the maps that you, the users, nominated. I personally tallied up your votes and made a tie-breaking decision myself, so I can't say it's a flawless victory, but I think you will be satisfied by the maps that made the final five.

This map has made it to the official Top Five more than once, and I'm not surprised to see it make this list as well. This puzzle map is definitely one of the most mentally challenging I have had the honor of playing. It is also one of the most aesthetically pleasing, with many parts of the map that made me stop to take a closer look. Separated into six main puzzle areas, this map has some of the most creative gameplay and physics elements involved. I don't want to give too much away for those yet to try the puzzle, so I'll avoid elaborating in detail about the challenges. Needless to say, this is one of the best puzzle offerings available on Halo Reach.

A relatively overlooked newcomer, Zenon is a map full of potential. For those that have played on this map, it has great quality gameplay that is hard to top. The various levels and pathways serve to give the players lots of movement choices, and keep objective games from becoming stalemates. The map circulates well, keeping players on the move and action dispersed around the arena, while maintaining a good spawn system and a variety of weapons at the player's disposal. Can you say you have ever had the pleasure of blasting a Ghost driver into the sky with a gravity hammer outside this map? I can't.

What can I say about Aquaball on Monsoon Arena that has not been said already? This map is truly a prime example of the great things that can be done with the new Halo Reach gametypes introduced in the Action Sack playlist. Not only does the map itself have great aesthetics and design at work, but the use of the Forge World environment itself improves the core gametype; The watery playing field isn't just a change of scenery, it's a change of physics, making the golf ball easier to manipulate. This is one of the few Halo Ball/Hockey games that scoring is common, even likely to end with one team reaching the max score. I vastly enjoyed my time playing this hectic and addicting mini-game.

From the first moment I saw this map, it was clear to me that this was a feature in the works. Of course writing it up here wasn't quite what I expected would happen, but it's funny how things turn out. This map has a very clear and easy to learn layout, but at the same time has a complexity to the design that makes the area feel more original. One of the most outstanding features of this map is the twisted tunnels which lead across the top of the map, creating a surreal contrast to the rest of the map, and a clear strategic route. The gameplay on this map is excellent, with plenty of avenues for attack the map is strong for objective gametypes. Surprisingly, this map is also great fun for free for all gametypes such as Juggernaut and King of the Hill. If you have not tried this map yet, you're missing out.

The second map on the list by DIEabolical, it's truly a display of his talents as a Map Designer. Based on the original Metal Gear Solid game for the playstation, this map is full of pure aesthetic pleasure. The sheer detail used to create distinct areas, and of the giant robot looming down in the hangar bay is staggering. On top of all of this, the map is great fun. As an asymmetrical map, the best gameplay is found in FFA gametypes, such as Slayer, Juggernaut and Headhunter. With a variety of weapons and differentiating areas available to the player, many strategies and gameplay tactics can be used to outwit your opponent. Just don't get caught hiding under any boxes.
Thanks for supporting XForgery NOMS!
For all of those who were part of the XForgery NOMS! sensation, I appreciate the time and effort you have given to this event, whether it is simply joining in a custom game lobby or making great Halo Reach content.
Unfortunately, Week #5 will most likely be the last week of NOMS! in it's current form. Without a true nomination and feature system to work off of, this event has no legs.
But don't worry, we will still have many events for XForgery in the future, and many new ideas are being developed and discussed behind closed doors. Keep your eyes peeled and your hands on the wheel, there's more content ahead!
