This winner of our first Community Featured Map is Denominator, with his map Fishlowl. Here is a short video highlighting this frantically fun and chaotic mini-game.

This looks very interesting. I'm guessing the walls are sloped at the angle of stairs? Now, when you say using lasers is fun, are you talking about just swapping starting weapons? I'd definitely like to get a game in on this.

You would be correct. I know this mainly because I was the guy running around the floor of Foundry, while Denominator put this all together. ;)
Now, when you say using lasers is fun, are you talking about just swapping starting weapons? I'd definitely like to get a game in on this.Yep, that's exactly what he means. Some of our favorite starting weapons are Spartan Laser, Sniper or Random.

Ah, I have a friend like you for my forge parties. He's a little harder to convince "not to snipe me or run me over with a floating wraith" while I'm attempting to interlock something. ;) Once I get my connection figured out, I need to go to one of you guys' customs to check out a few of the classics.

Who acres if it has interlocking, cover or anything? In fact, who said it was a COMPETITIVE map? It is a Mini-game map played on King of the Hill.

There is no misspelling. That is the title of the map. It isn't Fishbowl, it is Fishlowl.

There is no misspelling. That is the title of the map. It isn't Fishbowl, it is Fishlowl.
Not to mention the b-l mix-up is one you see all the time. I mean, those two keys are soooooo close together.

I remember this map when you guys just finished merging 4 boxes and finished the floor, we then continued to merge fusion coils into the floor which made it a lot more exiting XD, but seriously more interlocking? Almost everything is interlocked lol..

Are you kidding? Almost none of the boxes on the outer walls are interlocked, and none of them are inverted so the smooth side is up, they are really bumpy and un-even.

You shouldn't be spending hardly any time on the boxes. You run forward to the hill, die, and do it again. Otherwise, you'll never win.

Thats not the point I was making Null.... Just because you shouldn't spend all your time there doesn't mean he couldn't have taken an extra hour two make sure all the boxes were strait and locked up.

But, in the end, it doesn't get in the way of gameplay at all. You have to fight the urge to say that interlocking is necessary, in the least. Yes, it could look a little prettier, but who cares as long as it is fun?

I am in full agreeance... And sometimes you don't need the smooth side up... why? Because it gives off a different "feel" as the top... sometimes you need the rough surface, sometimes you need the smooth one... it depends on the "feel" of the map... I am imagining it with flipped boxes, and the feel of the map isn't as chaotic... it's supposed to be chaotic... now if you wanted a clean killing feel like MLG maps, you flip it over... but if you want to encourage chaos, you use the top...

They don't matter. I hate how everyone wants the boxes to be flipped over. Bungie designed the boxes to be set the way they are, but now everyone wants the boxes to be flipped over. I like the look of the right-side up boxes better.

Exactly. If you go into forge mode, you'll notice that all the spawns are on the boxes. Literally, all 100 spawn points ring the top layer of boxes, and they all face the hill for a reason. Maybe in slayer you'd stay up there, but the point was to make players go for the hill. If I had more walls or the jump barrier wasn't so high, I was going to try making players spawn in the air and fall immediately.

The bowl itself is all locked together because it needs to be, the boxes interlock in the corners so grenades can't escape, but other than that there was no point in spending the time to interlock everything.

Average lifespan on Fishlowl KotH is about 5 seconds. Who is spending their 5 seconds looking at the aesthetics of the map?

I understand that I could have made this map better and cleaner. But you also have to understand that this is an OLD map. I started working on it just after XForgery (then H3Forgery) started. So a lot of the techniques that we take for granted or, in some cases, seem to expect, weren't common then. Like the flipped boxes. Like interlocking everything. Anyone want to point out that the hill is not at 90 degrees, it's slightly tilted?
I could go through and redo the map. Fix everything. Interlock everything. Make it all pretty and nice and "ForgeHub Quality". But I'm not going to. The map plays brilliantly, like it was designed to, and my time is much better spent working on new maps and ideas (Valkyrie and Warthog Wingman FTW!) rather than making an old map look pretty.
