Hello and welcome to the first XF Weekly feature of 2011! This week, we're showcasing Hex by ShortkidPena! These days in Halo racing, it seems to be a very common fad when someone is losing a race by a wide margin, to reverse direction and go backwards through the race track in an attempt to ram into other racers at high speeds. Whether you do it just for fun, or if you do it just because you have a personal grudge with the leading racer, it can be a very fun tactic. Admittedly, with some tracks it can be more fun to do this then to actually race correctly on them! The beautiful thing about the map Hex however, is that it takes this 'ramming' tactic, and incorporates it into the entire race!
Hex is a tri-symmetric race map. Because the concept of a try-symmetric track may be difficult to understand through text, I'm going to bend the rules and show you all a picture of the map before the designated picture area. (For those of you who didn't already skip through all of this text to get to the pictures that is.)

As you can see, the track has 3 symmetrical 'loops' that come out of it's small center area. As some of you may have already guessed, it's set up this way so that you may essentially choose your path when racing. With so many people coming from so many different paths and directions, you're bound to get plenty of insane collisions throughout the map. With no actual railings to support the map, you also may end up getting a little wet every now and then. ;) Not only does this setup provide extreme amounts of fun, but it also insures that no matter what you're doing on Hex, you're still actively involved in the race. Races also tend to be generally close in terms of score because of this as well.
Hex's short build allows for the maximum amount of collision opportunities throughout the map. (Which is also why it's recommended to increase the number of laps in the game options) The fact that there's also not too many twists and turns throughout the track means that in a way, the map can really become as fun as you and your party make it. Whether you're winning, losing, bored, or just depending on your state of mind, you can either attempt to ram into others throughout the track, or try and avoid those who are trying to crash into you. Regardless of how you approach the track, it will provide you with a lot of fun, and quite a challenge too. Who needs to go through some roller-coaster style weaving thin track to prove racing skill when you can prove it by attempting to survive an entire race on Hex without being crashed into by other players in a 16-man party? (Remember kids, more players in the party = more fun with Hex!)
Hex isn't much for aesthetics, as it's extremely entertaining, and very unique concept is all it really focuses on, but enjoy the pictures regardless! (A race track doesn't need to be loaded with aesthetics if it plays well, shocker right?) And don't forget to download!
