View Full Version : Barriers, no longer needed.

Well, as all of you know, Sandbox will include a HUGE skybox, as well as a pretty big crypt. What this means to forgers is that from when the maps are released and on, the need to include a barrier around your map will be unneeded. (unless it's a very small map in the crypt that is)
In my opinion, this could make everyone's maps significantly better. This is not only because of sandbox's extensive scenery list, but also because there will be more items left to improve the map that would before be used to stop others from escaping.
On the other hand, this could also be the trigger of more people forging, making really unbalanced/bad maps that they would have not finished before simply because of the laziness they acquired over time.
I think overrall, there will be a wave of sandbox maps then it will smoothen out and we will see it's full potential.
What are your opinions on this? I think some amazing maps will come out of this, as already expected.

Amen. Barriers will still be needed for more diverse kinds of geometry.

I think you summed it up. Foundry brought in lots of forgers, and so with a map that is again literally "built for forging" but to a greater extent this time, there will definitely be a lot of new forgers. And don't forget we all started out bad with maps with "weapon caches" and one team gets a base and the other one gets shot at.

I think that I will like the skybox the best. It adds so many possibilities not there before.

yeah it really does. In terms of floating maps but also putting kill barriers on the ground where you want to. you could have snipers with two completely seperate bases :D. Or something good instead.

My first idea was the ultimate race track. And I've been wondering. If you drop a flag off the sky box does it land on the ground? What about vehicles and weapons. Or does it just act like Guardian or Narrows when you fall?

I know vehicles will blow up, but I'm not sure about weapons and flags.

I saw this on FH =P.
Anyway, they will be less needed than before, but in some instances, they will be needed. If you look at pre-dlc maps, you can see how hard people worked for barriers. Then look at foundry. People still blocked off parts, but it was much easier than pre-dlc and less needed. Now, it will be more unesscary.

Sandbox is like Jesus and Bunige is God. Gods gift to Halo. I really think that I am still going to make a map in the crypt that is enclosed beecause the crypt is much taller than Foundry and also Sandbox has more boxes and walls so its a lot easier to block off stuff. Although most of my time is going to be spent in the skybox for sure!

Flags apparently don't instantly reset if they fall off the bubble, they fall to the ground and will be reset due to inactivity, at least that's how I think it works

Ooo, that is a good point. They better have made flags and objective items disappear or that would be a SERIOUS problem.
Do any of you think that someone will find a way to glitch down to the crypt in matchmaking?

I don't like the Skybox... it is too resournce dependent... it I want full potential of all my objects I make somehting in the crypt... because that too is unbreakable my good friend...

Well technically the skybox is unbreakable, simply because of this equation:
Map on skybox+ you get out = you die. every time.

That's fine.. but not every map needs that do they? I think people are really overrating the skybox...

I've got a normal slayer style map for the skybox, (to tempting to make something like guardian), a few zombie maps and other original ideas for the middle ground, and a few extremely weird ideas for the crypt.
Unlike every single other person on the enterwebz most of my ideas take place on the middle level XD

Agreed most of my stuff is in the crypt... more walls means less I have to use to build them.. :)

I think that many maps are going to make a useless map on skybox with huge walls like a regular map instead of crypt just to say they made it on skybox. Or maybe someone will build something wierd on skybox and should have made it on the regular level. I think skybox is great but some maps are not going to need it.

Objective items just sit on the mid level once you drop them. They don't auto reset, you just have to wait for it to reset normally.
Oh and no, nobody will glitch into the crypt. If they do they would just be stuck down there, and bungie would fix it in a day or two after it was discovered.

Just as Photobucket said above, the skybox emediately jumps out as really screams FORGE! But I am actually most excited about the Crypt. Just the size of Foundry, I think a mix between maps on the ground and maps that you can fall off of will be at very neat diversity.
Lockout was an amazing map, but I alwase had a softspot for Turf :)

I'm worried about where the jump barrier is on Crypt. I know the maps are out now, so is it the same as Foundry or is the solid ceiling the actual ceiling?

There is none! The mid level and the crypt are connected, so if you start at the bottom of the crypt, the first "jump barrier" is the top of the mid level.
Just as Photobucket said above

lol I was gunna say who the hell is Photobucket??? And I also agree with AZN and his idea of already having walls and now that Phothobucket here released his Neutered canvas I think I will make A lot of maps on the main floor

I like the idea of infinite space. Since its easier to make things float idc really. The n00b maps will just not be downloaded

Yes, I'm just scared of the infection maps that some kids will be playing, Anyone else seeing an impossible to reach teleporter for zombies on the main ground that leads to a sniper base in the sky bubble? eeek....

Yes, I predict that map will be made about 200 times.
