Sorry for being a little late with the update this month, things sure can get pretty busy around this time of the year. But better late then never right? As always we have a lot to cover so get comfortable. Take it away big orange text!
Play NiceWith the sudden influx of new members, most of you may not know all the forum rules and regulations here on XForgery. Yeah, reading that stuff is boring as hell, but it could save you from an infraction or a ban in which "you didn't know" because you didn't take the time to read the rules. We recently had an incident in which an XF member violated Rule 4, a rule which we take VERY seriously around here. So serious, I'm going to quote it right here for your viewing pleasure:

4: Conduct on other Websites:

When you go over to another website, and you represent XForgery through a sig or by stating you‘re from XForgery, you have made yourself a self-appointed ambassador of this website. You may not think of yourself as an ambassador, but this is what you are. If you spam and cause trouble, it reflects onto the image of Xforgery in a negative manner. If we find out from another website that you’re intently causing malicious behavior over there and they can prove it (Trolling, flamebaiting etc.), you will be held accountable for your actions over here. If you have nothing good to post on that other website, simply don’t post it. Consider this your only warning.Such incidents rarely happen around here, but to save yourself (and the staff) from future heartache, be sure to click the bolded, centered, and enlarged link below. Even if you're a seasoned XF member, it's a good refresher.

XF Rules and Regulations (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10)

Forgetaculartastic! So a couple weeks ago we had an idea for an event, and it required acting quickly on a hunch. That hunch was the idea that people wanted their maps tested, and that they still had a significant number of needs in order to enter their maps into the contest that Bungie was hosting. Our hunch was correct, and the event took off--even landed us a spot on the B.net front page! But we seriously underestimated the amount of participation that we would receive, and quite frankly, it overwhelmed us.

But in large part, XForgery rose to the occasion, and we gained some solid members from the experience. And maps: we tested some that were absolutely incredible, and some that were very muchso not (but we won't name names or maps here). But regardless, anyone whose map was tested wound up with some handy feedback on their maps, with some final tweaks they could make to improve the map itself. We won't know until Monday at the earliest if our efforts to help wound up being of any use, but we want to thank everyone who participated for making it a success.

We've got a more complete write-up here (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12157), with some pretty awesome statistics to boot. You should check it out after this.

Out with the old...... And in with the new! Soon after Bungie lifted the Rank Cap back on November 2nd thus making all of the ranks available to the players, we decided to do the same for our members! This was accomplished by taking all of the old Halo 3 rank images and replacing them with the spiffy new Halo: Reach ranks. Now not only can you show off that sexy rank of yours in Halo Reach's game lobbies, but you can on the forums as well! You may never reach the rank of Inheritor in-game, but you sure can give it a shot here on XForgery! (Good luck with that...)

In the spoiler below is the full list of available ranks, both on the site and in Reach. We could also disclose how many posts you need for each rank, but what fun would that be? ;-]

Enjoy the new ranks everybody!

What's Up?This next new feature is one that I'm sure all of you have noticed, unless you're new to the site and do not recognize it as 'new'. Regardless, it certainly deserves a quick mention. It's the XF News feed! I'm sure you've all noticed the box with the shifting pictures to the left of the shoutbox at the top of the page. Not only is it a cool feature, but a very helpful one. Especially for a website like ours. As most members that have been around the site for a while know, XF is always hosting tons of events and there's always some important things going on. From Screenshot contests, Weekly Features, XFFF Events, Forgery Challenges, and more, it's very easy to overlook some important events. What the XF News Feed does is essentially display important happenings around the site. It can be used as a means of figuring out all that's going on around the site, and is also helpful for reminding you about said events. So long as you keep your eye on the News Feed every time you visit XF, you won't be missing out on anything. We hope you all enjoy this new feature. Remember, we do it because we love you. <3

Stay ConnectedHere at XForgery we're always listening to your suggestions and attempting to somehow incorporate them into the site. This next new little site feature comes to you straight from a suggestion thread! We've gotten a huge amount of new members this month, and I want all of you newer members out there to know that we do listen to your suggestions and we do often incorporate them into the site. So don't be afraid to stop by the Suggestions and Tech Support section here (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=5) and share your ideas. Now, as I was saying... this next feature comes to you directly from a suggestions thread, and just what is that suggestion? More contact information! Previously, all XF members could share their Skype Names, AIM Screen Names, ICQ Numbers, and Yahoo and MSN Messenger Handles on their profiles. But now, due to popular desire by you members you may now share all of those things with the rest of the XF community and more! You may now share all of the information listed above, as well as your Twitter account name, your Youtube Channel, Raptr account, and Steam ID. In addition to all of that, if you've linked your gamertag to your account here at XForgery, other users will get the option to send you an Xbox Live message via Xbox.com from your profile. All of this information can be viewed on all user's pages under the "Contact Info" tab, provided that the user has filled out that information of course. You can fill out this information in the "Edit Your Details" section of the User CP here. (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile)

You now have more ways then ever before to keep in touch with your fellow XF members, so get out there and erm... socialize!

Of The PeopleOver the past month we've received a ton of new members, most of which were drawn to the site thanks to our Forgetacular Test Sessions event being featured on Bungie.net's front page. Because of this, a lot of you have probably been seeing some new faces around the site. For this installment of "Of The People":

1.) Who are you and where are you from?
DarthMike431: Well as you all know, my Username on XF and Gamertag are DarthMike431. However, my real name is John, Mike is my brother. We share the same xbl account but i'm the one who mainly plays Reach. I chose to use DarthMike431 as the username on XF anyway just to keep it the same. Feel free to call me Mike though, i'm used to it. I'm from New York, born in the Bronx, but recently moved to Westchester.
Mm That One Guy: My name is Tynan, but I usually don't bother telling people as it is unique and odd for most people to say. I am from Ontario, Canada (eh?) and have lived there all my life.

2.)In your short time here at XF, what would you say is your absolute favorite thing about the site?
DarthMike431: I guess what I like most about this site is the community, everyone respects each other and the staff is very involved. I also like how XF hosts a lot of events on XBL.
Mm That One Guy: My favorite thing about this site is definitely the community. I honestly don't think I have seen a forum more mature then this. No flaming or spam and everyone just seems to get along.

3.) Is there anything on the site that you think could use improvement? Is there anything you would change?
DarthMike431: I'm not really sure. I was a bit confused about navigating the site in during the first few days but now that I understand it, it's pretty easy. I think that the stats at the bottom of the forum page seems a bit cluttered, although I like looking at the stats.
Mm That One Guy: Only thing I don't really like is the homepage. I felt like it was a bit cluttered and unorganized. My suggestion to fix that would be a slideshow showing 5-10 important things going on in the site. Oh and the fact that the embarrassed face code is spelled wrong ;) It only has one "s" lol. Sorry I am a language harlot.

4.) What do you think the other members on the site would be most surprised to know about you?
DarthMike431: I guess the community would be surprised to know that I was never really in to Halo until Halo 3. Even then, I didn't really play online much. Now i'm on playing Reach everyday.
Mm That One Guy:I think most members would be surprised to know I am only 15. On Xbox Live people usually think I am at least 18.

5.) Is there anything that you are scared of?
DarthMike431: Scared of? Hmmm, I don't know, I guess being alone in a forest at night lol. I don't really know how to answer that.
Mm That One Guy: Yes, I am scared of something... :embarrased:

6.) What is your favorite kind of sandwich?
DarthMike431: My favorite kind of sandwich is just Salami and American Cheese on a roll, no mayo or anything else on it.
Mm That One Guy: I don't actually have a favorite kind of sandwich but my favorite food is steak.

7.) Do you think you will be staying around at XForgery now that the Forgetacular is done?
DarthMike431: Of course, this is a great site that I never even knew about until Bungie posted it on their site. I'm definitely staying.
Mm That One Guy: Of course I will be sticking around on XForgery! Unfortunately I am not an avid forger but I am looking forward to participation in more testing and some of your non-forge contests.

8.) Did you win a prize during the Forgetacular Test Sessions?
DarthMike431: Yep! I won the Flaming Avatar Helmet. I thought I was going to have the most games played but I believe I was second, Mm That One Guy just beat me, damn! lol
Mm That One Guy: I did win a prize for the testing. :P I won one of the Noble Map Packs. I was quite happy considering I tested the most maps, totaling 117 (lulz) games.

9.)What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
DarthMike431:Craziest thing? Well during high school, there were skiing trips and on my 4th time ever skiing, I went down a double black diamond trail. I barely made it down but at least I made it. Skiing is my new favorite sport and I can't wait to go back.
Mm That One Guy: The craziest thing I have ever done... hmmmm in a thrill way or stupid? Lol if thrill then cliff jumping. Every year me and a couple of friends go up to my cottage where there are 30-70 foot cliffs and we go cliff jumping into the water. If stupid... drugs.

10.) Do you have any hidden talents?
DarthMike431: A talent that only my friends an family know, I can juggle while balancing a broom on my chin. I learned it when I was in the 5th grade, I was home with the chicken pox and I was bored.
Mm That One Guy: ...............(forgot to answer)

11.) What is your favorite place on earth?
DarthMike431: Well, the place I would love to visit someday is Dubai. Their rapidly growing cities fascinate me and their famous land marks like the palm tree islands and the Burj Khalifa. That place is amazing.
Mm That One Guy: My favorite place on earth is constantly moving as it is just being in my girlfriends presence... 2 years of paradise.

Map Search No Jutsu! So you guys are probably familiar with the map search that Null developed for Halo 3 content. In fact, there have been a few people asking about when that map search will finally be implemented around Halo Reach content. In fact, the wait is over! Now, if you go to any one of the Halo Reach map forums, you will find a small set of boxes at the top, which can be expanded to represent the image you see below. It's a full-fledged, in-line map search! You don't even have to leave the forum to look for maps anymore! Isn't it grand?

http://imm.io/media/25/25hs.png

...the obvious answer is, "Yes! It's fantastic! And thank you Null for being such a coding genius!" So if you want to search our Halo Reach content database, just head on over to the content forum and you'll find the same old map search just with a new pair of shoes.

Featured ContentHere is the cream of the crop, picked by our community, in chronological order since the last update. Remember that if you don't see a map on that you think deserves a feature, it is your job to nominate it (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1000)!

Automation for RelaxationSo I'm sure you all know about the medals that you receive for submitting maps and gametypes (if not, ask someone; it's pretty neat). Anyway, it used to be something that was done completely by hand: once a user submitted n number of maps, they would qualify for medal x, and it would have to be added to their account by an qualified staff member. Besides the fact that this presented a logistical nightmare (keeping track of the submissions of oh so many active members is not a fun job), it was slow, and we were liable to make mistakes. But no more!

That's right, the process for handing out medals for content submission (that is, maps and gametypes) is now completely automated! This means that every thread that you submit to the gametype or map forums is automatically counted towards a tally, and once you hit a certain level, you get a new medal! It's pretty awexome. With an X.

There is one caveat to this, though. Some people are incredibly fond of posting a series of maps to go along with a specific gametype in a sort of map pack. While there is nothing wrong with this, it needs to be said that with the new automation in place, these map packs will only count as one piece of content. So, if you want every piece of a map pack to count towards your overall submission ranking (and shiny medals), each piece needs to be submitted separately.

You have been warned! In our last Monthly Site Update we gave you all a friendly reminder that "The Gallery" section is ONLY for content that YOU made or that you own the rights to. Most of you have stopped posting content that's not yours in this section and have instead been putting it all in the General Chat section where it belongs. Although some people may continue to post content that isn't there's in The Gallery, that currently is not our biggest concern. What is a concern however are spam posts, and rude comments in that section. If you don't like a user's work then by all means you have the right to tell them, but in doing so you should state why you dislike the content in a civilized and constructive manner. If you don't like the creator's content, he or she is going to want to know why and what they can improve on. They don't want to just hear that you dislike it. Also, while short comments saying that you DO like a user's work are harmless and the user may appreciate it, often times he or she would be looking for a more meaningful or in-depth response. If we see you continuously making meaningless or hurtful comments in The Gallery, we will start handing out short bans from the section. These bans will get longer for repeat offenders and depending on how serious the violation is. In short...

"The Gallery is for serious user created artwork and serious responses to or discussions about the artwork. If you are found violating either of those, your Gallery privileges may be revoked."

However don't let all of this scare you from replying to a thread in The Gallery. Just follow the rules, be smart, and you'll be fine. Just don't say that we didn't warn you if you ever end up being denied access to the section.

October Forgery Challenge

http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/oo114/Null_Parameter/Random/firststrikebanner.png

This challenge was similar to The Last Stand (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10117) we had for Halo 3. We do not want to hinder anyone from submitting their new masterpieces so the only criteria for your submission is that it has to be a Halo Reach map or gametype.

We ended up having 10 very good submissions but the supports could only pick 5 maps for the vote. They are as follows:

Brimlad (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11100) by ShortkidPena
The Blood Bowl (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11461) by Prod
Vanilla (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11107) by Gunnergrunt
No Hope Act 2: The Streets (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11373) by Rifte and mike 286
Cold Station (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10972) by Joe is Outside

The voting for these top 5 maps lasted a week and in the end only one map could win.

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/1204/nohopesize.png

No Hope Act 2: The Streets (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11373)ended up winning the whole challenge! Rifte and mike 286 did an amazing job on this map. It is wonderfully forged, beautiful aesthetics, and very addicting gameplay. This map is the second installment in a wonderful map series inspired by the popular video game series "Left 4 Dead". If you have not played this map then we would strongly suggest you all download (http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/filedetails.aspx?fid=10793529&player=rifte+gifle) it and its gametype (http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=6852713).

More than meets the eyeThis is just plain old text. Or is it? Whatever you do just don't scroll your mouse over this, because OBVIOUSLY absolutely nothing will happen if you do...

It's a small change, but worth mentioning. Everyone's favorite Spam Collector thread can now be more easily accessed with it's own sub-forum link underneath the section. Enjoy it everyone. Happy birthday tipsta.

That's it everyone! Thank you for reading, and we hope you enjoyed. If you have any comments or questions feel free to post them in a reply below. Happy Holidays!

Great Update. Packed full of new, amazing features.

Like always, it was a very informative read. Thanks for mentioning the site bashing rule, even though I'm sure the person that was involved in that indecent was joking and didn't think his sarcasm was 'attacking' the website.

First off, college kid. Second off, it's the rough draft for my term paper in a freshman level class and I already finished it. It took me about 2 and a half hours of straight writing.

My favorite part of the whole thing haha :P

And the smallest. :P I guess Tim didn't want to make a big deal about it since he un-retired so quickly after retiring, but that's all he told us to put. XD

Love the shout out!

You're welcome. ;P

Great update Shaz!

Thanks, but I have a little big of a pet-peeve. Whoever posts the updates is not the one who wrote all of the update. That's what the "Written by" section under the banner is for. You probably already know this Prod, but I figured I'd use your post as an example for some of our many newer members.

Thanks, but I have a little big of a pet-peeve. Whoever posts the updates is not the one who wrote all of the update. That's what the "Written by" section under the banner is for. You probably already know this Prod, but I figured I'd use your post as an example for some of our many newer members.

Sorry, I didn't read it this time, let me redeem myself.

Great update Shaz, Holly, Tim, Jpec and Ace!

Good update but I would like to personally thank Null for all these new features he continues to add. THANKS NULL! You work is always appreciated here and I can't help but feel like we sometimes get ungrateful. So thanks :D

Idk if you will even read this since you already know what is updated...hmmm

Also I remember having a run in with rule 4 a year or so ago. That was fun. Except when null broke out the belt. Makes me cringe just thinking about it.
