Season 1, Episode 4
Ice Cold

Welcome to the XFFF Reach Episode 4! This event will last from December 6th to December 12th.

You guys asked for it, and here it is! XFFF is back in full force for Reach. Not only that, but thanks to the customization found in firefight, each episode is going to have a different theme and challenge. The fourth episode of the debut season for XFFF Reach will be focusing in on your ability to overcome the freezing conditions with your Armor Lock, there will be no shortage of practice around here.

What is XFFF?

XFFF (known in the old days as XForgery Firefight Fridays) is an event that will test you or your team's endurance on how long you can survive the covenant in certain scenarios, while racking up as many points as possible. In XFFF: Reach, EVERYONE HAS A CHANCE OF WINNING SOMETHING! Even if you can't walk away with the highest score on the highest difficulty, you can still win some XF points by completing challenges, or simply playing and submitting your best score.

How do I sign up for XFFF?

Good news everyone! There is NO REGISTRATION AT ALL! To participate in XFFF, you only need to be a member of XForgery along with having a valid gamertag. If you have those two, you're covered.

If you've been visiting this site as a guest for a while and been thinking about becoming a member to participate in this event, now is a good time to register. :)

Protip: You can register here: http://www.xforgery.com/forum/register.php

So, what is the featured map this week?

Each episode will feature one of the eight maps bestowed upon us by Bungie! The featured map will not only feature that episodes particular theme, but also contain challenges that can give you a chance of winning a firefighter medal.

This episodes featured map is:
http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/2781/glacier.png

Featured Map: Glacier
Featured Gametype: Firefight

Glacier is an outdoor based map adapted from the Campaign featuring many long lines of sight and the fiercest vehicles the Covenant can throw at you. Short on time and short on ammo, you will find yourself racing the clock while dropping the dead like dominoes.

Whats this about winning XF points for just playing?

Glad you asked. If a player or their team can not get the highest score, they can still walk away with XF points if they submit their best performance. Depending on what difficulty they choose, players will get more points if they choose harder difficulties versus players who play on easier difficulties.

Here's the breakdown on points distribution for this episode:

Legendary: 1 XF point for every 1500 points scored in firefight (solo or group)
Heroic: 1 XF point for every 3000 points scored in firefight (solo or group)
Normal: 1 XF point for every 6000 points scored in firefight (solo or group)
Easy: 1 XF point for every 10,000 points scored in firefight (solo or group)

So if someone scored 100,000 points for example, here's the math:

Legendary: (100,000/1,500) = 66.6 = 66 XF points
Heroic: (100,000/3,000) = 33.3 = 33 XF points
Normal: (100,000/6,000) = 16.6 = 16 XF points
Easy: (100,000/10,000) = 10 XF points

Protip: Decimals do not get rounded.

The best chance to get a lot of points comes at playing on legendary. The trade off is obtaining a high score gets harder as the difficulty ramps up.

Challenges

Challenges in XFFF act similarly to Xchievements (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9200) and challenges found in the game itself. The difference being you have a shorter time to complete them. Challenges are a way to reward players for completing certain requirements, and the rewards vary for each challenge completed. It can range from XF points, to a week of supporter and the firefighter medal!

Challenges vary in points with harder challenges worth more than say easier challenges.

Not including the winner challenges, 10 challenges are available for everyone totaling 240 XF points!

Wasn't generator defense taken out of FMM and replaced with mythic attack?

Wasn't generator defense taken out of FMM and replaced with mythic attack?

Yes, it was removed. It might have been added back, but last I heard it was removed. I saved it though.

How do I claim my XF points and medal from the last XFFF?

You can only get the Episode 4 Challenges (the ones in the first spoiler) using the DEFAULT Firefight gametype. I'd recommend getting the default firefight gametype from Matchmaking if it differs in time or something of the sort from the gametype pre-loaded onto your disc.

The Firefight Matchmaking challenges can be completed in any Firefight Matchmaking Playlist. So, Firefight, Score Attack, and Firefight Versus are viable options.

You only submit your full game for your high score for the custom game you play, not the matchmaking game(s).

Hope that cleared that up.

Score attack gametype, in the Score Attack playlist.

Im confused because you said they have to be done im matchmaking but then you said to submit custom games, not matchmaking games.

Let me clear things up since there's a little confusion:

The challenges are split into two categories: One for the custom firefight game and map for that week (Episode 4 challenges), and the other challenges is for firefight matchmaking (Firefight matchmaking challenges).

Episode 4 challenges can only be done in the custom game and map for that particular episode, while Firefight matchmaking challenges is done in firefight matchmaking.

If you complete a challenge, link that game in the submission thread with the name of the challenge you completed. If you complete two or three challenges in a single game on the same challenge list, then you can just link that one game.

You can't claim an Episode 4 challenge or a firefight challenge in the same game. You can claim them in a single post, but they need to be two separate game links since episode 4 challenges and firefight challenges have different requirements.

Examples:

- Player 1 is submitting a game in which he completed the "Mitts of Mayhem" and "Wraith Wrath" challenges with the featured map and gametype. Since they were on the same challenge list, and he completed them in the same game, he can just link that one game in the submission thread.

- Player 2 is submitting a score attack game on glacier in which he got "Frozen Solid", however, he also wants to claim the "Mitts of Mayhem" challenge because he got 30 beatdowns. He can not claim the "Mitts of Mayhem" challenge because it's not the correct gametype or challenge list.

- Player 3 plays firefight matchmaking and gets "Frozen Solid". Then he plays custom firefight with the featured map and gametype and gets "Mitts of Mayhem". He posts in the submission thread with links to the two games. This is acceptable.

Hope this helps.

Do the actual Firefight games that we link to for these challenges need to be played within the event times? I believe this event starts tomorrow, Dec. 10th but I have already posted a completed challenge. Have I posted too soon?

So if someone scored 100,000 points for example, here's the math:

Legendary: (100,000/1,500) = 66.6 = 66 XF points
Heroic: (100,000/3,000) = 33.3 = 33 XF points
Normal: (100,000/6,000) = 16.6 = 16 XF points
Easy: (100,000/10,000) = 10 XF points

Just asking, is score counted by teams score or your own score? For example I score 40 000 myself, but with my team mates score counted it's 100 000. Is the score 40 000 or 100 000?

Since the episode 4 challenges have to be done in a custom game, can the settings like unlimited lives, unlimited ammo and invincibility be changed?

The episode 4 challenges must use the featured map and gametype found in the thread. This time it's:

Featured Map: Glacier
Featured Gametype: Firefight

You can't tamper with the gametype or map or else your submission won't count. No editing the gametype. <-Bold.

Edit: When's it end? It does say this:
It starts December 10th and ends on December 17th @ 11:59 PM CST. Final submissions will be due on December 18th @ 3:00 PM CST.
But why would the submission thead be posted days in advance?

I asked this before, but don't try it. They can see EXACTLY what gametype settings you are using, even in Custom Games.

The rules state you have to use the gametype, so of course you cannot change it.

Sorry but I have a few more questions, im just a bit confused.
1) For Cold Blooded, does it have to be Score Attack gametype, or would gruntpoclypse count since it's part of score attack?
2) For the Gimme Yo Keys challenge, is it allowed in score attack on glacier? Because it would be hard to get firefight on glacier if i am voting with other people, in score attack, I can easily choose to play on glacier.

They said it had to the be the Score Attack Gametype, in the Score Attack playlist. As seen here:
Score attack gametype, in the Score Attack playlist.
Gruntpoclypse is to easy. Plus, there was a challenge for the first Reach XFFF that involved not dying in Gruntpoclypse.

2) For the Gimme Yo Keys challenge, is it allowed in score attack on glacier? Because it would be hard to get firefight on glacier if i am voting with other people, in score attack, I can easily choose to play on glacier.

Yes, but I am unsure if you will get vehicles to show up in the Score Attack playlist. I played it a few times already on Glacier, and the last wave is always Elites with swords and plasma turrets.

Just get 3 friends together to do it.

TO MODS:

I suggest revising the description of that challenge saying "The score attack gametype in the score attack playlist." There has been multiple people (Including myself at first), confused by that.
