Introduction
Dead Falls is my first submission to XForgery, so please be gentle... Not too gentle ;P . This map is my second-ever forge map, and took about two days to build and many more to set up for game types and to playtest. Overall, I'm quite pleased with how it plays. It's pure crazy, no stress, epic fun.

Updated Monday, November 22, 2010 - This map has had a few major overhauls to improve gameplay quality.

- Spawn Locations Improved: Every spawn has been reviewed to insure that no one runs off any edges. Sorry about that. =/
- Spawn Times Adjusted: Weapon and Armor pickup spawn times have been readjusted.
- Weapon Removed/Added: The Plasma Launcher has been replaced with the Concussion Rifle. Enjoy!
- Weapons and AAs Moved: Most of the weapons remain at or near the same location as before, but almost all Armor Abilities have been relocated to more appropriate areas.
- Jump Tunnels Added: The most distinguishing change is the addition of Gravity Lifts for quick access to the towers from the lower bridge. This should improve the speed of player travel and decrease the camp factor of the tower's top floor.
- Initial Camera Moved: It's got a prettier shot now. It's nice.

What is Dead Falls?
Dead Falls is a oceanic research platform for ONI, a place to research out-dated water faring technologies some outlandish scientists refer to as a SCUBA system. Unfortunately, no current Spartan armor systems can withstand more than 0 to 1 Gravity pressures, nor is the advanced plating system capable of neutral buoyancy. Many deaths have resulted from the continuing testing of SST(Spartan Submersible Technology).

What Gametypes does Dead Falls support?
Dead Falls plays best in Free For All gametypes, where the many bridges and walkways provide avenues of assault on random adversaries. However, Dead Falls is more than capable of supporting Team and Objective gametypes, with each team controlling opposing towers.

Guns & Blammo?
Dead Falls has a variety of weapons to support many strategies for offense and defense. As the map possesses Cross Symmetry, there are four of each item available. Close Combat remains a choice favorite, with Shotguns and Energy Swords up for grabs. The map contains pickups of every Armor Ability for changing your gameplay strategy on the fly, and a few Health Packs for the soldier worse-for-wear.

Well I don't think I've seen that before. It's like the outer ring of rats nest with two stories. The aesthetics are nice, but the map would be so much cooler if you could make it dark and make it all foggy. Try adding the FX next gen and purple. Anyways I hope it plays good, I'll have to test it Monday. Love the thumbnail by the way.

As far as the Special FX are concerned, I have actually tried a few combinations on this map before, and I do particularly like how Next Gen and Purple look together... Unfortunately, players did not respond well to the effect it had on gameplay. :( It made it tough to see and distinguish team colors when I tried Four Team play.

The thumbnail was something I threw together out of one of my old art pieces. I saw everyone else had that spice and decided I should too. Monkey see, monkey do. The piece is titled "Oblivion (http://lonewolfangel.deviantart.com/art/Oblivion-149760943)" after the Mastodon song of the same name.

Rat's Nest like the Halo 3 map, also the second Campaign mission. Familiar now? And that sucks that the FX harm gameplay, if only there were themes for Forge World like Night, Foggy, Sunset, etc.

Man this actually looks good! Wow. So this is your second post eh? hmmm.. :confused: lol just kidding. the map seems like it would play well with DMR starts or slayer without jetpacks but one thing seems to be missing.... Ah ha! Maybe try to add something to the center, like a bridge to a rocket or sniper or something. Not only is it a great RVR (Risk Vs Reward) strategy,(You have to go across that bridge while probably getting shot at) It would make the center seem a lil less... empty. Other than that, great work! Man I need to get those technologies that people use for those spiced up pieces.

This map has all the elements of a really horrible map:

Too many Power weapons
Armour abilities on the map
Huge lines of sight
Open spawns

But you know, it works, I love this for FFA slayer, it's great fun. I have no idea how you did it, but it you made it awesome and play really well. I hope this does well in the contest.

It's my second map ever, this IS my first XForgery submission. :D

I actually planned to have a center platform with Rockets, but I ran out of budget. :confused:

As far as the spice, I just used an old picture, a new screenshot, and some Photoshop editing. I went to college for digital media design, so Photoshop is one of my learned skills.

This map has all the elements of a really horrible map:

Too many Power weapons
Armour abilities on the map
Huge lines of sight
Open spawns

But you know, it works, I love this for FFA slayer, it's great fun. I have no idea how you did it, but it you made it awesome and play really well. I hope this does well in the contest.

I'll have to keep those hallmarks in mind as things to avoid, truthfully. The intention was to create a map that was more casual than competitive, though. I think it succeeds in the fun factor, but as a team map I'm not sure what to think. Luckily, it's in the Symmetrical Arena/Rumble Pit forgetacular section, so I doubt the team play will even come up as an issue. Let me know if you have any more advice. :)

Well, I don't know how it plays, and I don't know if you have too many power weapons, if you spawn in the wrong places, etc. But I can tell you that just by looking at the pics that it has some really good things going for it. You can snipe across the map with few obstacles, it is clean, and you could drive a warthog on this like a drive-by-shooting game. But you don't have vehicles??? Well this gives me an idea of a new map I want to make!

Thanks for the comment! :) I know it has a flaw or two, but fortunately it still plays well in FFA, which is the main meat and drink of my customs games nights. The power weapons just add to the chaos.

One of my friends kept driving a warthog around on this map during it's development. There were many, many suicides on his part, heh. XD There's just not enough room for anything bigger than a mongoose on here, and chances are you're going to wreck it into the drink.

I wouldn't call it advice, it's a brilliant map. I'm just suprised that it worked given it has the flaws that would usually ruin a map.

It's like a chutney, pickle, ham, cheese, lettuce and curry sandwich. A horrible combination that turns out to be really good.

Dead Falls has been majorly updated! I took into account all the great feedback the XForgery testers provided and put it to good use. Have a look at the first post in this thread to see the new changes and new screenshots! Thanks for all the support! :D
