Hello and welcome to another weekly feature here at XForgery. This week, we're showcasing Megiddo. Megiddo is a medium sized competitive map made by Jpec07 that supports a wide variety of different game variants, and is one of the best all around competitive maps that you'll find so far in Halo: Reach. (Yes, I can say that with confidence.) Megiddo is technically classifed as a medium sized map, but it has a presence so large that you'll hardly feel like you're playing on a map of it's size. The map itself is really quite overwhelming. From the multiple levels, the tall structures, the long weaving catwalks, and the beautiful aesthetical touches added all throughout the map, it really is the complete package.
Speaking of being the complete package... Megiddo supports a whopping 10 gametypes. You could host an entire Custom Games gaming session on this one map! The game variants it supports are as follows: Assault, Capture the Flag, Infection, Juggernaut, King of The Hill, Oddball, Slayer, Team Slayer, Stockpile, and even one of XForgery's favorite custom game variants, OVERBOARD! Although Megiddo is primarily designed for Capture the Flag and Team Slayer variants, all of it's supported game variants will play out very well on it. All of the game variants playing so well is accomplished by simply fantastic map design. Megiddo has a plethora of pathways, catwalks, ramps, lifts, and man cannons that insure movement around the map is not only quick and easy, but offers much diversity as well. Invade the top story of the enemy's base from below via a gravity lift, or charge right in via catwalk. Jpec07 has done a fantastic job of insuring that every key point in the map has multiple ways to approach, or attack it. Which is great for objective and slayer games alike. Jpec also clearly put a lot of thought into the weapon placement on the map as well. All weapons on Megiddo are spread out fairly and equally, with every gametype symmetrical or otherwise considered. (For example, Neutral Assault and One Bomb both have balanced weapon placement) But of course no competitive map can truly be seperated from the rest without proper spawn placement. But I assure all of you, a 'bad' spawn is rare on Megiddo. With how spacious the map is and with all of the various structures to block line of sight, there's plenty of places that you will spawn safely before you would spawn right into someone's view. Megiddo truly is one of the best maps around. It plays great, and what do you know? It looks pretty good too!
With all of the elements to make a simply fantastic playing map in place with Megiddo, it's perhaps even more impressive that so much effort was put into aesthetics. From the large aesthetical pieces that really help give the map a larger appeal, to the little touches that polish up the map and really make it feel more complete. Megiddo is so beautiful that it practically beckons for you to play on it, and it undoubtedly deserves a spot in your map cache.
However seeing is believing of course. So enjoy the pictures! (For more information on Megiddo, you may visit the original thread here. (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11632))
