View Full Version : Interlocking

Interlocking is the merging of two objects together by various methods. This became popular when the Heroic Maps were released due to the ability to easily forge with immovable objects on Foundry. There are several methods to do this which I will explain below.
Note: These are my personal ways of interlocking and not standardized rules.

This is, to me, the easiest way to interlock.

First, place the object you want to interlock in it's proper location. From now on this object will be referred to as A and your second object as B. (Immovable objects such and boxes, walls, etc. are much easier to interlock than movable ones which include crates, vehicles and anything else that can be moved by the player.

Next, set A's properties to Place At Start: No and Respawn Time: 180. Now start a new round.

Go to where you placed A. A teardrop is now there in place of it. This teardrop is located on the bottom and center of the object so you can use it for the purposes of lining your next object up.

Spawn B. Place it where A would be if it was spawned. To make this easier put a wall on one of A's sides when it is spawned to use it for reference.

Once you have B in place go to your item list and select what A is; ie, a box, wall, ....

Double tap X on it to bring up it's Properties menu. Set its Run Time Minimum to whatever its Maximum for approx. 3 secs and then turn it back to its original. A should now be spawned. Tap X while aiming at it and chose Place At Start: Yes.

When I get pictures I will post Method 2. Sorry if it's a bit hard to follow but I hope it helps!

I hope you don't mind Baby, but I will be writing a Tricks of Forgery guide soon covering interlocking, geo merging, randomization, traits, etc... I will make sure I reference this though for interlocking.. is that cool with you?

Also this is going to be moved to the features section... someone please move this to Forge Discussion... Only certified guides will go in here... no offense, but we don't want the general public able to post guides and tutorials in this forum... it needs to be controlled so it's not cluttered by repitions of the same style guide, I hope you understand.. thank you for the consious effort though.. it will not go unnoticed... also if someone makes a really good comprehensive guide we will be featuring it... and it will go in this secion...

It's waaaaaay easier if you place other objects alongside the object you are merging into as guides, so you don't have to fiddle with getting proper alignment all the time.

Yeah, totally. This is what happens when I have 15 minutes and there's nothing on TV but repeats of Friends. You can move the other one too then. Just as long as there's a guide available.

I am basically the video maker of the site, and this could be a very easy tutorial to make... I think I may do this tonight.

Don't do the vid Homer... not till I do the official one for XF... there is alot more to interlocking than just that and the video should be all encompasing... we just don't want to miss anything...

homer you should make the interlocking and geromerging video before the guide and wait to post them so they are already ready for posting right away

I don't think that we should have one single "Featured" guide. That's sort of contrary to the whole "community-run" feel we're trying to give people. If we have a single dominating guide that is site-supported is the thing we should be frowning upon. I don't think repetitions will be few if the guide authors actually take a look the forum before posting. Having a "Featured" guide section and a single "Tricks of Forgery" guide does not only drive away the community feeling, but it also reminds me a lot of ForgeHub and Forging101.
