Here we are, with another Forging Challenge for all of you. This one will be a little different than the others for several reasons; but we'll get to that later.

I'll just get this out of the way before I talk about anything else.......

For the First Place Winner of this Challenge, we are giving away.......

The Mythic Map Pack

Yep, you read that right. Your very own copy, free of charge. But, more on that later.

The challenge this time around is Pre-DLC Innovation.

What does this mean?

As you can infer from the challenge title, you must forge this on a Pre-DLC Map. (Oh noes! No Foundry!)

What you might not get directly from the title is the meaning behind Innovation.

Innovation means that we want something new. We want you to use your brain and give us something that we haven't seen before. Create something. Bring us a new breed of game.

Now, this isn't just a forging challenge, this innovation mainly applies to the gametype for the map.

That's right! All submissions need both a map and gametype. Luckily, this is Pre-DLC, so you don't need to worry about Geo-Merging to perfection, as has become standard nowadays. **shudders** As we all know though, a lot of the real innovation comes from the Gametype, so that is where a lot of the judging will be made.

A good example of this idea of Pre-DLC Innovation is the new map Valkyrie (http://xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1129). It brings a new gametype to the table (Warthog Wingman) and provides a map to play it on. Don't worry though, I won't enter it into the challenge. ;)

How long do I have?

That's one of the other changes for this Challenge. You have only until next Monday (3/2/09) to finish. This is a sprint of a challenge, as it only lasts 7 Days.

Like I said though, no need to interlock or geo-merge. Pre-DLC FTW!

So hurry up and get working, because......

Why should I enter?

I'm glad you asked. There is a very good reason to enter this challenge.
Prizes!

As has become standard here on Forgery, winners will receive 1 Month of Supporter Status.

For those of you who are new to Forgery, and there's definitely a few of you, here are the perks for having Supporter:

Access to your very own Blog (http://xforgery.com/forum/blog.php)
Access to the Supporter Lounge
New color for your username
The ability to change your User Title at any time
A nice Badge by your Name
http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/6326/supporterv2dx1.png
A little extra influence in the community :D

If you want to get access to Supporter Status without having to win, or for more than the 1 month, you can go here to Support XF (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/payments.php).

In addition to this though, the 1st Place Winner will receive.........

The Mythic Map Pack

You will get these, completely free!
HOORAY!

To reiterate,

First Place

Mythic Map Pack
1 Month Supporter Status

Runners-Up (# Determined by number of Entrants)

1 Month Supporter Status

How are winners chosen?

After all submissions are collected on March 2nd, they will all be placed into a Poll that only Supporters can see. This will allow the Supporters (you know who you are) to play the games and vote on their favorites. A short while later, the Top 5 voted maps will be moved to a Public Poll where everyone can vote for their favorite one. (make sure you play them first ;))

By Friday, March 5th, we'll have a winner and they will be given a code to download the Mythic Map Pack. I realize that this is a couple days after the Mythic Maps come out, but that still gives those who pre-ordered Halo Wars a little bit of an edge. ;P

How do I enter?

First, you must submit your map here on XF. You can do so by going to any of the map forums and hitting the big "Submit Map" button; or you can simply follow this link...... SUBMIT MAP (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/newthread.php?do=form_map_halo3)!

After you have done that, go over to this post to submit:

SUBMIT YOUR MAP (http://xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1165)

That's it! You're done!

Anything else?

Why, yes, there is more. <3 Thomas.

Feel free to post more than one map, but only one of your maps will ever make it to the Top 5, just to spread around the possibilities. So, while it doesn't increase your chances from within the Public Vote, it might from within the Supporter Vote.

That's not to say I won't...

But that brings up a question - what if the map/gametype are co-forged, such as Valkyrie?

Null Parameter

If you co-forge, there will only be once code. So, you'll need to pick a recipient for it.
But you will both get Supporter Status.

I will tell you that unless the map is really innovative to the Conquest gametype, than it won't have a very good chance against the Brand New gametypes. But, you can always submit it and see. :D

Well the top 5 are being picked by supporters and the #1 is going to be picked by the whole community. That means that there is not really an answer to your question. It depends on the people voting.

It's quaint and friendly because it's so small. If this gets as big as it possibly can, it's going to be crowded and n00b infested too. That's part of being big.

The difference is going to be the moderation and administration that keep it community based.

You can post anything un-tested. However, any problems that might have been an easy fix will come back to bite you.

We have a Forum (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=35) dedicated to helping everyone get maps tested, but it's pretty hidden at the moment. I've been thinking about bringing it out to the front page to further aid everyone, but haven't had motivation.

A suggestion. When the community is depended on to vote, can it be a substantial comment, rather then a poll. People can mindlessly vote, with no clear intention of doing so. Needless to say, I'm sure some people could even go to the extent of making proxy's just to inflate their votes. It's just a suggestion that I feel would broaden peoples chances, rather then it depending on popularity.

Anyway, thanks AZN on devoting one of your codes to the community. I'll be glad to enter this, as I'm a fan of Pre-DLC. Good luck to all the entrants.

Ironically enough, Sandtrap (or Sandtarp in my case) doesn't have enough good movable objects. Only 8 crates and 12 of the covi boxes. I wish I could have had more, but I will have to improvise. I just noticed, Sandtrap also doesn't have deployable cover or carbines (carbines I also needed, so I had to improvise w/ BRs, not as realistic 4 the feel I was going 4 tho ): )

You are correct. It can be difficult to compare the two types of games.
But, as was stated, we are mainly looking for the Innovation in some new type of Gametype, plus a map to support it.

So, in general, it is difficult to bring a new, innovative gametype to the Competitive side of things; but if somebody does it, and does it well, people will recognize that.

We aren't saying "The Best Mini-Game Wins", but rather "The Idea that is the most fun and brings something interesting and new to the table Wins".
In the end, this challenge is decided by the users, so give them something they will love, and they will show you some love in return. ;)
