So OVERBOARD! is back with a passion in Halo: Reach. While not the most popular gametype, it is one that turns many otherwise-defunct maps in to maps that are a great deal of fun. At least that’s the case with this map.

The name “Insphere” has no special meaning, other than the fact that players will find themselves on the inside of a large, ribbed sphere. This ribbing is an inadvertent result of the construction of the map, but does serve to spice up gameplay somewhat. Insphere was meant originally as an aesthetic concept, but after the placement of a few landmines, the map’s destiny became clear.

Insphere is exactly what it sounds like: the inside of a large, ribbed sphere. Here you get a shot of the layout, including the ribbing and the triangular structure of the curved walls. You can also see some of the landmines. These mark the intersections of the ribbed structure, and will go off under almost any presence in their immediate vicinity. On the bottom, it respawns once a minute. On the sides, once every 30 seconds. On the top, every ten seconds (because that one’s just so hard to actually hit). But don’t you worry! If you step on a landmine, it doesn’t count as a suicide (unless your grenade’s explosion is what triggered the landmine to go off—then it IS your fault, and you get docked).

There really isn’t much more to say about this map, so I’ll resort to a handful (three) action shots:

It looks a bit small for an overboard map, but its actually kinda hard to judge scale with all that is going on in there. Any framerate issues?

You guys won't believe me when I say the entire map is made from the same item. I went into forge with some dudes and went to town on this.

We made nifty Ascension thingys.

Map is amazing. First person to guess which item he used gets an internet cookie. (Without going into forge on it :P )

I was actually gonna say 25 XFP from myself personally, but an internet cookie costs less. :p

I played some OVERBOARD! in this and it played just as OVERBOARD! does, but it's so damn beautiful. Is it true that you used only one type of objects?

No it hadn't any issues with FPS, even in splitscreen

We played some OVERBOARD! in this, and it played okay. The biggest issues are that there is only one way to get around, jumping, so it is hard to maneuver and people spawned on the upper ridge quite often and then just sat there and rained down grenades.

A great aesthetic map, but nothing impressive for gameplay. :(

I did not think the gameplay was bad. The people on the top were easy targets, so I did not mind them. I had more of a problem with the spawns on the bottom facing out. You should have moved them up a hill a little and faced them the opposite way.

Yeah, you're right. It really doesn't play that great. I've got a V2 planned that's more gameplay-centric, but all of the things I tried killed the aesthetic side of things. It'll be properly reposted in the minigame forum once it's done.

Now to both of you concerning this spat. Null, I respect, and even agree with your opinion, but at times I do think you need to learn to choose your battles. Multi, while I appreciate your willingness to jump to my defense and gallantly play the White Knight to stop the defaming of my "talent," I must remind you that Null is as entitled to his opinion as you are, and that I actually appreciate feedback of a negative variety--gives me a list of things to fix for next time.

And to both of you, please stop arguing in my thread. I'd rather it not have to be closed...

i want to say tunnel short but i could be 100% wrong.

also this looks like a map made for looks that inserts a little gameplay, in this case overboard.

i love the way it looks, but i can tell without playing it that i wouldn't like playing on it for 2 reasons.

1) i would be looking at them amazing walls and not be able to play.
2) i don't live overboard maps that you need to jump a lot.

but thats just my thoughts on it

I don't see much from your pics, may download to see, I made loads of the aesthetics you have used in your map on many of my maps, so know what they look and play like, I would say a few more shots would help get more views & dls. But from what I see so far it looks really good and you have used the antenas to the max! Nice work on this map
