View Full Version : Gametype Moonwalk?

So, Letol and I decided to try and recreate Moonwalk.
Guess what we found out? It's completely broken. Assist points are no longer an option, and 4x overshield does nothing for your player. It drops instantly.
Yep, another gametype that Bungie went and dun goof'd.

Halo Reach = Worst Halo game yet. Sorry guys, it's true.

Maybe in terms of gametype customization, but in overall gameplay and CAMPAIGN QUALITY I thing Reach takes home the Gold

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you greatly. While it is a great game, Halo 2's/3 gameplay were way better. I think Bloom just kills it, Armor Abilities feel like they ruin that certain aspect of smoothness, your player speed and jump height are greatly reduced and the maps for Reach are Terrible.

Maybe it's beacuse I was always a huge fan of Halo C.E then. Halo Reach is quite different from two and 3. I suppose my last statement wasn't made with much thought so forge about that. But I truly think that the campaign is far better than any of the other Halo's (you can shoot Ostriches and get an achievement for it), and matchmaking as a whole, even if the maps aren't as good feels much more fun. Armory is far better than Halo 3's unlock system, and to me, nothing feels truly overpowering. Vehicles actually have limited health so they don't stay functional just because your not dead.

I could get into this but I'm not in the mood to hit up a few paragraphs to make my point.
In short, I've been around since the launch of Halo 1, trust me, I'd love to believe Reach was the crown to the series as much as the next guy; and I still love Halo as a group. But take my word for someone who's been a fanboy since 2001 or so; Reach is the worst one. The campaign is the worst part about Reach, no discussion. The only thing going for the game right now is forge, I really don't expect Reach to last as long as any of the other Halo games did.

Jesus, I'm tired of listening to so many people complain.
Reach's gameplay is much better than 2/3s, by far, and honestly the people who say otherwise just haven't adjusted. While the jump height and movement speed have been reduced, sprint and jet pack easily make up for that. Bloom adds a whole new level of skill to the game. As for armor abilities in general, true, some tend to interrupt the flow of the game, but if you don't like them, then don't play with them. Make your own gametype, play customs. 80% of what I've done so far is customs. And as for the maps, uh, FORGE WORLD. Wait for a month and you'll have all the maps you'll need if you don't like the default ones.

I want to convince you to believe me, but I don't have any legitimate evidence so I'll just bombard you with a paragraph filled with bias.

Don't think for yourself. My opinion is right, no matter what. How could I be wrong? I'm a fanboy, and every fanboy has the same opinion. (But I'm the smartest one)
Fix'd.
Also, I'm pretty sure this thread is about Moonwalk, not who is the smartest gamer who knows if games are good or not.

I can't think of anything to say in response so I'll just make some stupid remark that matches my maturity level.
My point was that when I say Reach isn't good, it's not from bias or any type of ignorance towards the play style of the past Halo games. You know what ignorance is, right? Course you do, your entire last post was comprised of it.

Then what is it from? There is no way to prove if a game is better then another. Your post was based off of your opinion entirely.

When did I ever sound ignorant? I literally only said that this is not the right thread for discussing how good Reach is. I still stand by that statement, as this thread was obviously created for a different reason. If you would like to prove to me how Reach is the worst Halo game so far, then please do so, but in PM form.

You've got a point, I completely forgot to address the problem! Silly me.
However, all I've got to say is, Reach isn't halo 3. I loved moonwalk, even though it wasn't always a crowd favorite, and it's a bummer that it can't be remade, but instead of trying to remake old games, we should really be trying to make new games which take advantage of Reach's new features. Or just wait for the title update.

Yep, another gametype that Bungie went and dun goof'd.
Also, overshields don't show up on your spartan anymore so you pretty much wander around awkwardly in the dark hoping to find people lol.
It really is too bad that so many things were taken out... I wonder what made them decide to do that. I mean, at first, I was trying to think of how the gametype could work without assist points. Then I remembered how the entire game was based off of assist points... Without them, no one would even hit each other because you'd only be helping the other person. Bungie goof'd all over gametype settings.
Jesus, I'm tired of listening to so many people complain.
Change begins with realization of what is in need of being changed. Aka. complaining :P
I mean, yeah, a lot of it probably won't make it to Bungie, but raising awareness with others creates a larger amount of people that may (or may not) care about it, thus increasing the chances of Bungie figuring out what people want fixed.

Well, this whole discussion is about opinions, and you and I sure do seem to have a lot of differing opinions :P
Anyways, I just wanted to share my opinion on bloom. I think it's a cool feature because it stops the impatient trigger happy players from killing you mainly by shooting more shots and having more chances at hitting you. At the same time though, it strengthens the role that luck plays in the game.
Say, in Halo 3, you have your crosshair on top of the enemies head the entire time as you pummel them with bullets. The other guy panics and shoots as many shots as possible, mostly missing your head and hitting your body. You end up killing him because you were better able to keep your crosshair on him as you shot.
In Halo: Reach, bloom almost completely destroys this. Now, regardless of whether you are better at keeping your crosshair on him or not, the enemy still has an equal chance of killing you. Even the smallest amount of bloom can cause you to have a chance of missing your shot while the enemy could get lucky and hit you even with a large amount of bloom.
I liked the other Halo games because the better trained shot would almost always win. The brush of luck still came along every so often, but now it's present in every fight that happens.
Now, of course, there's a simple fix, right? Just don't shoot too quickly. The problem with this is that in order to have a small enough amount of bloom to actually be completely assured that you're going to hit the enemy, you're only going to be on your 3rd or 4th shot by the time that you're killed. I smell a large whiff of luck in every fight that occurs and I'm just not a fan of it...
That said, it's all opinions in the end. Kind of the same as how I believe that Halo 2 still holds the best online gameplay in any Halo game so far. Well... held... before it was taken offline :(
So I'm only going to keep that response about bloom, since this post would become pretty lengthy if I wrote anymore. :P
EDIT: Too late, it already is pretty lengthy XD

Honestly we may have lost a lot of gametype options (being one of the guys that was paying attention to them), but we gained a lot in return. Armor abilities, Jump Height, 0% movement, gametype labels, etc have made tons of new gametypes possible. There is no way I could even come close to making a turn based gametype in Halo 3 and no way that I would be able to create a board game with no honor rules in Halo 3. The possibilities are endless and we are just breaking into the system. With as many innovations that are coming out now I'm really excited to see what people make in the future.
And honestly I don't know how the rest of Halo is (I've played 3 campaign missions on normal, 22 arena games, and like 5 games of firefight... lol compared to my almost 500 custom games) but the custom game scene is LOADS better than H2/H3. And it isn't just because of the new Forge, it is also because of the new gametype customization options and how they mix with the new forge. My only true complaint is the amount of host switching that goes on and how many games it breaks because host switching resets respawn timers and what not. If you are a custom gamer like myself, you are LOVING reach... lol. Note that is an assumption and opinion; please don't flame me :)

0% movement,
Wait serious? I didn't know about that! I'll have to go look in a little bit!
The only thing that annoys me is that, I shouldn't just like the game because of the custom settings. If I don't like the game its self then there's a problem.

Sounds like a personal problem, because I'm having the time of my life.

True, while I do <3 you Letol, we tend to have surprisingly different opinions.
Anyways, I just wanted to share my opinion on bloom. I think it's a cool feature because it stops the impatient trigger happy players from killing you mainly by shooting more shots and having more chances at hitting you. At the same time though, it strengthens the role that luck plays in the game.

Even the smallest amount of bloom can cause you to have a chance of missing your shot while the enemy could get lucky and hit you even with a large amount of bloom.
I've run into these situations before as well, but the chance of these things happening is really small. Not to mention, the more you learn to work with bloom, the more you realize precisely the chance that a shot will hit depending on how fast you're shooting, how close you are to your target, etc. It definitely adds a new level of skill, but it can cause some bullshit moments.
I liked the other Halo games because the better trained shot would almost always win. The brush of luck still came along every so often, but now it's present in every fight that happens.
Now it's a combination of a trained shot, and the ability to work with bloom. Luck is only involved if you don't know what you're doing.
There will always be bullshit moments in every game, unfortunately we have to learn to work around them. And there are ways to work around them.

Sheesh guys all of this arguing and comparing is useless, can't we just enjoy the games and not argue about which one is better then another...
p.s. Halo 2 & 3 > Reach in multiplayer gameplay, Halo C.E & Halo 2 in Campaign > Reach, and Halo Reach > Halo 3 in overall custom game possibilities. :3:
