OverviewHello and welcome to another Weekly Feature here at XForgery. This week, we're showcasing Vanilla. Vanilla is our very first Halo: Reach featured map here at XForgery. *Cue applause*

Often times, describing something as "Vanilla" means that it is bland or boring. However this map is far from either of those two things. Vanilla is a medium sized competitive map that works well with all Slayer and Objective Game Variants. However the map is very versatile and supports all Game Variants besides Invasion and Race. So feel free to boot up some Infection games on this map as well. Vanilla has three different levels that you can battle it out on. Each level can be accessed rather easily thanks to two Mancannons on either side of the map that take you directly to the top floor. So for those of you who like vertical gameplay, this map is for you. Being able to get from the bottom level to the top with such ease keeps the map balanced and makes sure that camping out on the top level of the map is a very difficult task. Gunnergrunt has also helped balance out the map by placing an Energy Sword in the dead center of the very bottom floor of the map, and a sniper rifle on the middle floor. So you may not want to spend too much time on the top level, or you'll risk allowing the enemy to take control of the map's power weapons. However in the center of the top level you will find a Plasma Launcher, which can clear out your enemies rather quickly. The placement of these weapons makes for a very intense scramble for the power weapons at the start of the game, and helps balance the flow of the map as well.

All in all Vanilla is designed very well and forged near perfectly. We all know that truly perfect forging is practically impossible, but Gunnergrunt's patience in placing every object as precisely as possible has made Vanilla a very smooth and clean looking map. Perhaps the most interesting feature about Vanilla however is that Gunnergrunt cleverly forged the map in an area where two trees, a patch of grass, and a couple of rocks pop through the floor of the map, and invade the map's interior. This creative idea adds a very interesting twist to the map, and causes many to fall in love with Vanilla the second they lay their eyes on it, However after just a few games on this map, you'll fall in love with it's gameplay as well. For those of you waiting to see what creative things people could come up with in Halo Reach’s Forge, Vanilla gives you a pretty good example. Needless to say, Vanilla definitely deserves a spot on your Hard Drive. Enjoy the pictures!

I loved playing on this. There's a lot of variety in each area of the map and every armor ability was equally useful, which makes it a lot of fun.

A great pick for the first Reach XF Featured map btw.

Why no pic of the epic light?
The map truly is amazing though and anybody who ever plays competetive games should have this on there HD

Nice Map! Downloaded when I first found it couple o day ago
Just one comment on the Overview, he did find two trees and the patch of grass, but the rocks where forged, just saying...
Off-topic: GodlyPerfection, are you the one who wrote the amazing forge guide on Bungie.net?

I'm fairly happy with this feature. Even if I still feel that there are tons of feature-worthy H3 maps, I suppose it is time to move on. Congrats, GunnerGrunt! You never cease to amaze me. :P

Why no pic of the epic light?

Because the "epic light" causes quite a bit of frame rate lag and I consider it one of the only, if not the only flaw in this map. Besides, you can see more of the map's actual layout without a pic of the 'epic light'. If anybody wants to see more pictures of the map though, there are plenty more in the original map post which you can find linked at the beginning and end of the feature. Enjoy.

I know, but it wasn't really worth explaining. XD

Whoa whoa whoa. Only one of those rocks were forged.

Great write-up Shaz! I've always appreciated your feature write-ups.

Yes Guthiix that's me.

And I agree with Shazmanoid's choice to go without a pic of the light. It isn't part of the true essence of Vanilla... it is just an accent. And listen
to GunnerGrunt get defensive about a rock... rofl.

Gave this map a download, and I was very impressed with it. The map feels alot like Halo 3's Construct, but with it's own unique feel. My only gripe is that the watery cave-like floor of the lift room would've made for a nice playing space.

All in all, it's a very weel forged map, and I do hope you try to get this into matchmaking Gunnergrunt.
