OverviewHello and welcome to another Weekly Feature here at XForgery. This week, we're showcasing Vanilla. Vanilla is our very first Halo: Reach featured map here at XForgery. *Cue applause*
Often times, describing something as "Vanilla" means that it is bland or boring. However this map is far from either of those two things. Vanilla is a medium sized competitive map that works well with all Slayer and Objective Game Variants. However the map is very versatile and supports all Game Variants besides Invasion and Race. So feel free to boot up some Infection games on this map as well. Vanilla has three different levels that you can battle it out on. Each level can be accessed rather easily thanks to two Mancannons on either side of the map that take you directly to the top floor. So for those of you who like vertical gameplay, this map is for you. Being able to get from the bottom level to the top with such ease keeps the map balanced and makes sure that camping out on the top level of the map is a very difficult task. Gunnergrunt has also helped balance out the map by placing an Energy Sword in the dead center of the very bottom floor of the map, and a sniper rifle on the middle floor. So you may not want to spend too much time on the top level, or you'll risk allowing the enemy to take control of the map's power weapons. However in the center of the top level you will find a Plasma Launcher, which can clear out your enemies rather quickly. The placement of these weapons makes for a very intense scramble for the power weapons at the start of the game, and helps balance the flow of the map as well.
All in all Vanilla is designed very well and forged near perfectly. We all know that truly perfect forging is practically impossible, but Gunnergrunt's patience in placing every object as precisely as possible has made Vanilla a very smooth and clean looking map. Perhaps the most interesting feature about Vanilla however is that Gunnergrunt cleverly forged the map in an area where two trees, a patch of grass, and a couple of rocks pop through the floor of the map, and invade the map's interior. This creative idea adds a very interesting twist to the map, and causes many to fall in love with Vanilla the second they lay their eyes on it, However after just a few games on this map, you'll fall in love with it's gameplay as well. For those of you waiting to see what creative things people could come up with in Halo Reach’s Forge, Vanilla gives you a pretty good example. Needless to say, Vanilla definitely deserves a spot on your Hard Drive. Enjoy the pictures!
