View Full Version : Matchmaking

I think the whole "back to the roots thing" means more involvement in Halo 3. I'd like to point out that that goes beyond simple forging.
I mean people don't use Fileshare anymore.
So I'd just like to toss out a suggestion that we have Matchmaking days, or even a Matchmaking team. As serious as we'd wanna get, but really Halo isn't even getting played anymore, and we're all relying on the DLC to get the players back instead of playing.
But that's my take on it.
When's the last time you played matchmaking?

Um... Last time I've played Matchmaking was January 3rd, or something like that. I really liked the good old days, though. Where every Saturday we would get up around 10 AM EST and just play Squad Battle (It wasn't called Squad Battle though, it was something else) for hours.

When's the last time you played matchmaking?
2 Days Ago, and the only reason I didn't play yesterday was because I had an epic game of Campaign to play.

Social, Jan 2nd.
Ranked, Jan 1st.
It's not that I don't like Halo anymore, it's that I'd much rather play my new and exciting stuff instead.

I still do play matchmaking about every other day but, the play lists never change drastically enough to attract my attention. The main thing that attracts me to halo and has kept me coming back to it continuously is the custom game options. I would rather play customs where I have the opportunity to play something new. While I understand that not every one has enough active friends who still play customs, most of the people I play customs with are online at least every other night and still maintain a fileshare.

I know exactly what you mean. I have so many other games to play, but for some reason, I'll still strangely drawn to Halo. Definitely not all of the time, but I keep coming back to it, for one reason or another.

I do matchmaking randomly, never really to a set schedule. Usually when I play Halo by myself, I forge, despite hardly releasing any maps any more (I blame certain forging communities for making aesthetics too big of a deal). But, every once in a while, I get the urge to go kill something in Squad Battle. I too remember the days when we would/could get a who team into BTB and murder the other team, and will admit that I miss the camaraderie.
Back to Sampson's original comments, I would love for more people to start playing Halo, if only on occasion. We could do full teams in Matchmaking, play Custom games and actually have a full-out successful Game Night that doesn't end pre-maturely.
So, basically, :agree:

Yeah, remember when we were playing Team King on Avalanche, and we had that amazing comeback? Those were the days.

I think I still have the video of that.
We were down 171-0 and came back to win it.
I have no idea how we did it, and no idea how we didn't score a point until that time.

Matchmaking has never really been the same for me since they took away RBTB. That was all I really cared about, and with that gone, I don't much care to go into Matchmaking anymore. I'd rather play with people I know than randoms.

The New Squad Battle Ranked Playlist is pretty close to RBTB.
It's 6v6, so a little smaller, but you still get all of the good, big maps.

But my rank didn't carry, and I don't feel like putting the effort in to get back up to 32.

Oh that's right, I forgot about your insane ability to camp on Sandtrap and go up in rank.

Only on Sandtrap, and only in Slayer.

But Denominator! It's so much easier to find games at low levels in the "big-team" style playlists!
Anyways, i play a lot more than my account indicates. I started a 1-month under the GT "Sumfatdud3" just for the lulz. And to play ranked with my brother.
Imagine: "sumfatdud3 splattered you" (or sniped, or beat you down :) )

Yeah... which is why I think we should get an actual competitive group. Or maybe one competitive and one casual.
We could have an MLG Team, a Social Team, a Ranked Team, etc. Each team member could be a specialist, they could all have different formations to run and strategies.
It can be as in depth as we want.
I think the game-nights is also a good idea. EVENT MODS!! But it was sort of separate from the idea I was thinking.

We've attempted to have a competitive MLG team before, but with so few people it is hard to get the kind of people that can make practice to actually make a competitive team viable.
Although, assuming we can get the right people and enough to make up for absences, I could see a casual team doing well.

MLG with this amount of people is always difficult because:
1. Lack of skill (sorry, you're just not that good)
2. Lack of people who are serious about it.
Casual would be a lot easier.
If it works out, I could manage it.

No offense taken, trust me, I know I'm not that good, and I'm sure other people have similar ideas about themselves.
And that was our problem before. Lots of people wanted to be on the team, but nobody wanted to dedicate the time to practicing and getting better as a team.
If it works out, I could manage it.
Feel free to try setting something up, if it catches on, we might make it into more of an official thing.

That's the thing about the Casual team. You don't even really need to practice.
You just say hey lets all get on at X on X and give people like 3 days notice. Have enough alternates so that you don't have to worry about no-shows, and you're all set.
Playlist is decided by number of people present.
And if you want, you can switch to custom games or what have you.

I'll be willing to play.
As far as a good way to set it up, probably either post something in Halo 3 Discussion (http://xforgery.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=20) and/or create a Social Group (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/group.php).

This. I tried, defiance tried, we both tried at the same time. It failed.
:RIP: competitive team.
as for casual, if you ever need anyone to show up and I'm on, invite me. add "sumfatdud3" (no quotes) to ur Friends lists, too.
