So my youngest brother apparently has Joe Staten on his friends list. Today he gets a message with some strange code or clue. He quotes the movie Last Action Hero with the line "You want to be a farmer? Well here's a couple of acres.". This si the clue, and I for one am stumped as to what the connection is to Halo.

Going back to watch the movie, there is a fake movie trailer for "Hamlet". halo has made reference to Shakespeare throughout the series, I couldn't pinpoint anything specific between Halo and LAH.

Then I focused on the "acres" portion. This lead me to look into a possible connection with the novel Contact Harvest. Having not read any of the books, I was lost in trying to piece anything together.

So I ask for your help in figuring things out.

Who is Joe Staten?
Is that all the message said? If it is, how are you supposed to know how to redeem whatever you happen to find?

1. At Bungie, Staten served as director of cinematics for the studio's games, including the Halo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_%28series%29) series; he would write mission scripts and movie dialogue for the titles. He has also been involved in managing the expansion of the Halo franchise to other game studios and producers, including Peter Jackson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Jackson)'s Wingnut Interactive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingnut_Interactive). Though not a published author previously, Tor Books (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_Books) approached Staten to write the fifth Halo novelization, Halo: Contact Harvest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo:_Contact_Harvest). Released in 2007, the novel reached #3 on The New York Times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_York_Times) bestseller list in the first week of its release and received positive reviews.

2. He basically said "Here's a chance to get some exclusive Halo Reach content." then gave the quote and said we had to figure out what it means. :(

The harvest book is about the very first contact with the covenant, before reach. Including peace offerings and such which go sour.

You can't trust XBL if he had him on his Friends List. Could be an easy fake.

That's what I told him. But, in the chance that he is the real deal, why not go for it? I'd rather chase a wild goose than err on my doubt.

My initial thought was Harvest.

Well why don't you google or search bungie.net for his real gamertag and compare it with the one shown in the message.

So are you supposed to message him with an answer?

I don't think your friend is friends with Joe staten... But if he is it could just be a relevant quote... Like the other kid said it could mean... U wanna be a forger here's forgeworld... Or u wanna be a gamer here's an amazing game... But if it's really a clue that's weird

Yeah I'm pretty sure that whoever this was, it isn't the real guy. The only GT I found on Bungie with that name was made a year ago with only 24 games logged between social and ranked. Not only that, but neither does he have a linked B-Net profile nor does his Spartan wear the appropriate armor of a true Bungie employee. I also checked my brother's FL and the guy isn't on there anymore. So I'll have to break this to him tomorrow that he got duped.

Hmm...it sounds very suspicious yet intriguing at the same time...if it was real, I wonder what the exclusive content would be.
