OverviewIt isn’t every day that you see a map like this one. Desert Heights (http://www.xforgery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9530) by Cowboypickle23 is an elaborate structure built to resemble the streets of some futuristic city. From the aesthetic value to the classic Halo-style gameplay, this map is most certainly worth of the feature as a perfect example of a playable aesthetic map.
The segment that you find yourself playing in is built into a hillside, leading up towards the red team’s spawn area at the top of the map to the blue team’s at the base. And every piece that you run across towards your first encounter with the opponent is beautifully crafted and positioned in some of the more unique manners I’ve seen. It’s very rare that you’ll get a chance to stop and smell the roses in a map this small, but take a moment to have a look around and you’ll see the attention that was paid to detail. This much undoubtedly contributes to this map’s nomination, and its success in becoming featured.
But the gameplay is fantastic as well. While weapons are sparse, playing a game of Team Slayer BRs proved to be immensely entertaining, with the weapons on the map serving to add the occasional zest to the already engaging gameplay. And one of the best parts about this map is that every single structure is playable and intuitive in design, which is something that’s very hard to get right. All in all, the flow of the gameplay tends to revolve around the top of “Main Street,” as this is a map that clearly demonstrates the advantage of having the high ground.
So if you haven’t already, go ahead and give another download to Desert Heights (http://www.bungie.net/Online/Halo3UserContentDetails.aspx?h3fileid=116661736), and be sure to congratulate Cowboypickle23 on his well-earned second feature here at XForgery.

Different angle of the same area, this one showcasing some of the better aesthetic pieces of the map. It’s urban!
