This is a pretty fun game so I figured we could give it a shot.

If you already know the rules you can skip this, if not go ahead and read.


Mafia is a game where the "God/Leader", being me, will first assign you a role, usually being:

Townspeople
or
Mafia

In variants there are other special roles, but lets keep it simple for now.

Anyways, I will randomly assign people roles, usually with 1/3 of the people being in the mafia.

The goal for the Townspeople is to eliminate the mafia from their town, while the mafia is trying to overrun the town. So, if all the mafia members are killed, the Townspeople win. And if the mafia members outnumber or have equal numbers, then they win.

The mafia members will know everyone else in the mafia, meanwhile the townspeople will only know their own innocence. You may not tell anyone you're role. There are two periods of time in the game, day and night.

During day time, the players (including the mafia) can vote to lynch any other player. The vote will be on the main game thread (this thread is only for sign-ups). If the majority votes for a single person, they are dead and are no longer part of the game (they can leave messages from the dead as long as they don't contain anything of importance to the ongoing game). Votes must be on the thread and in bold, while normal chat will not be bolded. Mafia members can vote for their own to eliminate them or to throw suspicion of themselves. Regular townspeople can be lynched by majority vote. People can also vote "no lynch," and if 'no lynch' receives the most votes (which it probably will the first round since no one will have too much suspicion), then no one will be lynched. Anybody can talk during the day to discuss their votes. If you want to change your vote, post a new vote instead of edditing your old vote. DO NOT EDIT YOUR POSTS. After 4 real-time days the day will end and there will be a forced "no lynch." If a decision comes, then that person will be killed and daytime will be over.

During night, no one can talk on the main thread. Mafia members will PM the God to cast votes for which townsperson to kill. After either 2 real-time days with no consensus or someone has been chosen by the Mafia, the night will end. The Mafia can talk through PMs or whatever method they choose. In the morning I will post the "Daily Times" or whatever, with an article discussing the death of whoever the Mafia decided to kill.

New roles may be added based on the number of players. If we get more players I will tell about new roles.


So just post if you want to play and I'll PM you your role when we start.

I'm assuming we'll only get to play a basic game with about 10 people, but if we get more than 15, I'll start adding special roles. After we get 10 people though, I'm only going to wait like a day or two till the game starts.

I assume rounds will be about 2-4 days long (day and night) and there will be about 5-6 rounds. So like maybe 3 weeks tops. Its good as long as this is just a thing in the back of your mind, so like its fun while its there but when its not its no biggie.

It's not going to be used a lot (since social groups generally aren't), but more as a sort of "contact book" for me to know whose playing and who to invite (so i don't have to go "door-to-door" like i did for this one).

I played this in English today (we had time to waste) went through around 3 rounds and it's crazy difficult. It'll be interesting to see a forum version where it's slower paced, though.

Yeah it has a few different twists:

1. You don't need to close your eyes
2. PMs and stuff like that assists in role assigning and such
3. Longer games (just by a few days)
4. No facial expression give away
5. You can look over a person's wording over and over again online
6. You don't know the people online as well

By definition, he can't. He knows everyone's roles, which goes against the basic premise of figuring out who's who in the game.

Yeah I'll include more night roles later on. Theres a game you can play where everyone has a night role and you know everyone's role and theres just alignments.
